PHOTOs: Saraki signed the procurement act into law


The Senate on Thursday, June 16, passed the procurement act into law to make buying Nigerian made goods compulsory.

The bill is titled a bill for an act to amend the public procurement act to provide for ans adopt a local content policy and timely completion of procurement and for other related matters, 2016.

This decision was taken after consideration of the report of the committee on public procurement sponsored by Joshua Dariye representing Plateau West senatorial district.

The bill is titled procurement act 2007 (amendment) bill 2007 (SB. 232).


The Senate president, Bukola Saraki said while making his contributions that the lawmakers have to play a role to ensure that the executive complies with this decision.

It scaled second reading on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, April 13 and first reading on Thursday, March 10.

The next step is for the bill to go through concurrence in House of Representatives, then assent of President Muhammadu Buhari.
