Fashola talks about David Cameron's Corruption Comments on Nigeria, N70 Million on His Website on BBC (Watch)


Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola was a guest on BBC's Hard Talk on Tuesday, August 2nd where he was interviewed on issues of national development, power,  corruption and his administration as governor of Lagos state. 

Reacting to former UK Prime Minister, David Cameron's comment that Nigeria is a fantastically corrupt country, Fashola said;

Landlord left three-page of Suicide Note after taking his own life


A 48-year-old landlord on Tuesday hanged himself in Ibadan, leaving behind a three-page suicide note.

The incident happened in Idi-Ose along Akan road in Ona Ara Council Area of the city.

The deceased, Popoola Adepoju, was found in his room dangling from a rope tied to a ceiling fan.

Residents of the area said the father of three sent his children on an errand before taking his own life.

UK Court Sentence Franca Asemota To 22 Years Imprisonment For Human Trafficking


A Nigerian woman, Franca Asemota, 38, has been sentenced to 22 years jail term for trafficking in persons.

She was found guilty of attempting to traffic Nigerian girls through Heathrow Airport to work as sex workers in brothels across Europe, a statement by United Kingdom (UK) stated.

Asemota was convicted on Wednesday, 3rd August at Isleworth Crown Court of eight counts of conspiracy to traffic persons for sexual exploitation, two counts of trafficking persons outside of the UK for sexual exploitation and two counts of assisting unlawful immigration.

NFF Unveils Nigeria’s New Kit For National Football Team


The Nigerian Football Federation has unveiled a new kit for the national football team.
According to the NFF, the team will take to the pitch this week in the new kit, designed by Nike featuring Dri-FIT technology.
“The home kit is a solid green, with white ribbing around the back of the modern crewneck collar,” it said.

Governor Okowa lauds James Ibori’s “Sterling Contributions” To Delta State On 58th Birthday


Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has felicitated with a former governor of the state, Chief James Onanefe Ibori on his 58th birthday today, August 4.

In a congratulatory message to the former governor, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, the Delta governor hailed Mr. Ibori’s “sterling contributions” to the development of the state and Nigeria, as a whole.

Ibori, who was governor of oil-rich Delta State between 1999 and 2007, is currently serving a 13-years jail sentence in London after admitting fraud of nearly £50million. He was sentenced by a Southwark crown court in 2012.

Judge who nullified June 12 Election says He has no regrets about his decision


Twenty-three years after he gave judgment annulling the June 12, 1993, presidential election, Justice Dahiru Saleh has said he has no regrets for his action even as he absolved former military ruler, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), of blame in the controversial decision.

The election, won by the late business mogul, Chief MKO Abiola, was cancelled by the Babangida administration, with the former military ruler accepting responsibility for the decision, which nearly plunged Nigeria into another civil war.

The 1993 presidential election, adjudged to be one of the most credible polls in the country’s history, saw Abiola, a Muslim from the South, who ran on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) defeating a northern Muslim, Alhaji Bashir Tofa of the National Republican Convention (NRC).

UNILAG Authorities slam SUG Leaders Four Semester Suspension Each


Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have suspended Students’ Union leaders who participated actively in the institution’s last protest.

It was gathered that three of the suspended students have got their suspension letters, while others have been notified that they have a mail by their departments’ officials.

It was learnt that the suspended students got between two to four semesters each.

Court Upheld Governor Bello’s Election


The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday dismissed the suit filed by Mr. James Faleke challenging the election that brought Gov Yahaya Bello of Kogi State into power, thereby upholding the election.

A five-member panel led by Justice Jumai Hannatu Sankey held that Faleke’s case was not substantial enough to disqualify the governor.

Nigerian Medical Students arrested for stealing in the Carribeans, decries lack of funds


Some Nigerian medical students studying in St Vincent and Grenadines in the Caribbean have reportedly been arrested for theft.

The students were awarded scholarships in 2013 under the Rivers State Scholarship schemes.

Two of the sixteen students were nabbed after they were caught stealing, Vanguard gathered.

The students, who reportedly said they resorted to stealing due to lack of funds, complained that the government abandoned them to their own fate for close to 2 years, alleging that they (government) refused to pay their tuition and starving them of their monthly upkeep allowances.

Former leader of Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau has resurfaced after a year in hiding. He has also reacted to the news of a new leader being chosen to lead Boko Haram by ISIS.

Nigerian Lady, Franca Asemote involve in trafficking teenage orphans into Europe sex trade bags jail term


Franca Asemota, 38, known to her victims as “Auntie Franca”, used Heathrow Airport as a hub to smuggle at least 40 children and young adults into Europe.

A court was told Asemota lured the girls – who were as young as 14 and mainly orphans from remote Nigerian villages – with promises of jobs and education.

She then used “witchcraft”, threats and violence to force them into the European sex trade.

AAUA Strike: Governor Mimiko's meeting with ASUU Ends in Deadlock


An emergency meeting summoned by Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State with members of the Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU] of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko to address the issue of unpaid salaries of lecturers has ended in a deadlock.

Our correspondent was told that the  meeting held on Tuesday at the Alagbaka office of the Governor had in attendance the embattled Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun.

The lectures are demanding for the full payment of their entitlement and have vowed not to resume for teaching activities on the campus if their salaries are not paid.
