Niger Delta Youth Leaders Stage Protest At NLNG


The Niger Delta Youth Movement comprising of leaders of youth groups from the Niger Delta, staged a peaceful protest at the office of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Their mission according to the protesters led by Niger Delta activist, Ankio Briggs, was to submit a protest letter to register their displeasure over the siting of the Dry Dock outside of the Niger Delta.

Abubakar Atiku's daughter sworn in as Commissioner of Health ... She forfeits Salary and Allowances


This is a very bold step and also a very generous one. One of the daughter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Dr Fatima Atiku, has been sworn in as the new Commissioner of Health in Adamawa state. Fatima who was sworn in alongside 21 other commissioners yesterday August 28th. In her remarks, she said that as a way of contributing to the health sector in the state, she will be donating her salary and allowances while serving as a commissioner

Ekiti State Governor appoints 72 years old Carpenter as LG Chairman


Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has appointed a 72-year-old illiterate, Pa Olatunde Afolayan, as the caretaker chairman of Moba Local Government Area. 

He also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Mrs. Amina Zakari as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission. 

The governor, who stated this during the inauguration of Boards, Commissions and Governing Councils in the state, said it was only God that saved him from the failed impeachment plot. 

Thailand Police Arrest Suspect Over Bangkok Bombing


Police in Bangkok say they have arrested one of the suspects in the bombing that killed 20 people earlier this month.

He was found after Police raided an apartment in a northern suburb of the capital on Saturday afternoon and discovered possible bomb-making materials that could have been used in the August 17 attack in Bangkok’s bustling commercial heart.

Police would not confirm where the suspect was from but said he was a foreign national and would be charged initially with possession of illegal explosive materials and held at a military facility.

Department of State Services Nabs Spy at Abuja Airport


The Department of State Services has busted a spying network mounted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Following the development, the service had stepped up security at all airports across the country to frustrate other criminal plots and protect lives and property.

The DSS in a statement on Saturday by an official, Tony Opuiyo, stated that it apprehended a 14-year old boy from Kogi State, Sulaiymon Abdulrahman (a.k.a Sunday Ajayi), who was monitoring travelers’ movements, passenger screening, boarding procedures and other processes at the departure and arrival halls.

Prof Wole Soyinka says Obasanjo Has a Prominent Place in the Republic of Liars


Nobel Laurette, Prof Wole Soyinka has described former president, Olusegun Obasanjo as a liar and somebody who should not be taken seriously and that he has no respect for him.

Soyinka said this yesterday, Friday August 28th, at an event organised by Telecommunication company, Globacom, at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, in his honour.

The event which was a gathering of the crime de la creme in the literary industry, was tagged “An Evening With Soyinka”.

Nigerian Troops Uncover IED Making Factory In Borno


Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Army on Friday discovered and destroyed an Improvised Explosives Device (IED) making factory in Borno State.

It is another feat achieved by military personnel combing Sandia, Kokakowa, Miyati and Nyaleri villages, along Maiduguri-Bulabulin-Damboa road, in Damboa Local Government Area in the north-east Nigerian for members of the Boko Haram sect terrorising the area.

Four Crew Members and others Die In Kaduna Helicopter Crash


Seven people have been killed after an aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force crashed at the old site of the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna , Northwest Nigeria.

The casualties include all four crew members and three passengers. The victims were travelling from the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna en route Abuja , the nations capital.

Emergency officials say the helicopter crashed less than ten minutes after taking off.

Buhari Appoints Col. Ali as Customs Boss (Ken-Saro Wiwa’s Killer Panel Member)


Col. Hamid Ali (rtd), 60yrs, who was handpicked by the Abacha regime as a member of the kangaroo tribunal that sentenced renowned environmentalist and minority rights activist Ken Saro-Wiwa to death by hanging, was on Thursday named by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Nigerian Ambassador to United States, Adebowale Adefuye, is Dead


Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Adebowale Adefuye, is dead. Mr. Adefuye, a former History professor died on Thursday at an undisclosed hospital in Washington DC.

Mr. Adefuye was appointed the head of the Nigerian mission to the U.S. in 2010 by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was born in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State in 1947. He was a graduate of the University of Ibadan where he bagged his first degree in 1969.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina has noted that while it is true that President Buhari’s appointments are not yet balanced, the President will take cognisance of geo-political spread in the future.

Adesina, who made this known Friday while speaking on RayPower’s flagship programme in Abuja, said: “In terms of the spread, the thing I will also like to say is that the President has the prerogative to make appointments and he knows that there is federal character in our constitution. I’m sure he bears that in mind as he makes the appointments that will come in the future. I believe that at the end of it all, there is going to be a balance.”

Ogun Governor’s wife debunk rumour of arrest in London for money laundering


Olufunsho Amosun, the wife of the Ogun State Governor, has debunked speculations that she was recently arrested in the United Kingdom over money laundering allegations, saying the false tales were spread by those bent on destroying her image.

Mrs. Amosun made the clarification at State Hospital, Abeokuta, on Friday during an interview with journalists shortly after she donated milk and other items to expectant mothers on behalf of Aisha Buhari, the wife of the Nigerian President.

Recall that there were unsubstantiated reports recently alleging that the governor’s wife was arrested in London for laundering money running into millions of dollars.
