FG negotiating on the release of more Chibok girls


The Federal Government on Monday said that talks are ongoing for the release of more school girls that were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents from the Government Secondary School Chibok, Borno State.

Senior Special Adviser to the President – Media and Publicity – Femi Adesina gave the hint shortly after delivering lectures at the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information’s (NASPRI) annual media workshop for Defence Correspondents and Commanding Officers.

According to the spokesman, the President said that with talks still ongoing, many more abducted girls can be recovered.

Shooting in New Orleans leaves 1 dead, 9 injured


Police had already increased patrols in New Orleans' bustling French Quarter before gunfire erupted early Sunday, leaving one man dead and nine other people wounded in a tourist district famed for its bars, bright lights and live music.

Extra uniformed and plainclothes officers were on duty and ambulance crews were on standby for what Mayor Mitch Landrieu said was supposed to be a festive time with college and pro football games in the city and people vacationing over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

FUTA Vice Chancellor Arrested For Deliberately Crushing NASU Staff With His Vehicle


Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, the embattled Vice Chancellor of the crisis-ridden Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), in Ondo State, was this morning arrested after he hit a member of staff of the institution with his car.

Abiodun Ademola Atunbi of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) member of FUTA was allegedly crushed to the point of death, and was rushed to the hospital.

SaharaReporters learned that the incident happened on the main campus at Oba’nla in Akure at about 8:30a.m. as some members of staff of the institution were gathering at a meeting point for prayers.

A live-streaming host from China has been sentenced to four years in prison after spreading obscene videos on the internet, according to Chinese media. The 21-year-old, whose screen name is 'Sherry Gun', was arrested after a video called 'Foursome in Chengdu' became widely shared online.

Sherry Gun participated in the filming together with one other woman and two men in order to attract more followers for her online live-streaming business, reports said. The two-minute-long video became viral in March. 

Ohio Shooting: Shooter Shoots At Least 9 People at Ohio Campus (Photos)


A suspect is dead and at least nine injured about an hour after an active shooter situation was reported at Ohio State University. Just before 10am, the university issued a warning telling students at the school's Columbus campus to shelter in place. 

The first reports of gunshots came from Watts Hall, which is home to the school's Materials Science and Engineering program.

Nearly 29, 581 Nigerians who fled their communities in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa as result of insurgent activities to Republic of Niger and Cameroun have voluntarily returned last year, this is contained in a published report of humanitarian relief intervention by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) which was released recently.

The report says 13,046 Nigerian returnees from Niger Republic in May, 2015 and were received in Geidam, Yobe State while Between April and December, 2015 NEMA received about 16,595 Nigerians that have voluntarily returned from Cameroon through the Sahuda border crossing area near Mubi, Adamawa State.

340,634 registered voters for Lagos bye election on Saturday – INEC


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said that it has 340, 634 registered voters for the Dec. 3 bye-election in Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

Clement Oha, INEC Administrative Secretary in Lagos State told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the distribution of Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) was ongoing ahead of the poll. “We are distributing PVCs so eligible registered voters can still go to INEC office in Ifako Ijaiye Local Government and pick up their PVCs,” Oha said.

At least three of every 10 years spent in Lagos is lost to traffic, a survey by a Lagos-based transport firm, Planet Projects, has shown.

It, therefore, means that residents of Lagos, Nigeria’s economic capital, spend an average of seven hours 20 minutes in traffic every day.

Presidency explains how 200,000 persons were selected for N-Power jobs


The Senior Special Assistant, SSA, on Media and Publicity in the Office of the Vice President, Laolu Akande, on Sunday explained how 200,000 Nigerians were selected in the first batch of the N-Power Volunteer Corps, NPVC, asserting that the selection was not only fair and transparent, but carefully put together.

He clarified this while giving an update on the NPVC which is now advancing with assignment of beneficiaries to their places of deployments in their states of residence. He explained that 40 per cent of those who applied for the N-Power Teach and Agric were first selected, followed by 50 per cent of those who applied for the Health category, all based on an assessment test.
