Eagles will no longer receive bonus in dollars for any home games

Nigeria Football Federation is now working on paying Football players in the Nigerian currency when matches are played in Nigeria as opposed to the payment of dollars for match bonuses whether they play in Nigeria or abroad.

An Africanfootball.com report stated that it was part of the decisions taken by the NFF technical committee at their meeting in Abuja on Tuesday. The committee is also putting forward several far-reaching recommendations including the scrapping of dollar payment to the various national teams and match-by-match bonuses as well as placing assistant coaches on a part-time basis.

A top official of the NFF said some other decisions are that players and officials of the various national teams will no longer be paid in US dollars for home matches and the national teams will not be paid bonuses on match-by-match basis, but rather for various stages of a tournament, like qualifying for a major tournament and reaching the various rounds of these competitions.

It was also learnt that as part of measures to reduce the heavy financial burden on the NFF, only the head coaches of the various national teams will have full-time contracts while their assistants will be on a part-time basis and expected to tie down jobs with teams in the various leagues.
“We believe some of these measures will go a long on reducing the heavy financial pressure on the NFF,” the official said.
The chairman of the committee Chris Green, however, said he was not aware of such decision when he spoke with The PUNCH on Wednesday.
He said, “We discussed the U23 team and how we could help secure all the players (Samson) Siasia needs and we also discussed getting a substantive coach for the Eagles. The one on dollars is strange to me.”
But despite his denial another official of the NFF said “I am sure of the details of that meeting but I wouldn’t be surprised because the President did mention in recent past that there was the need to discuss the matter and reduce the pressure that the dollars have created on everybody.
