United Kingdom place order for Anambra State scent leaf

After successfully exporting Ugu vegetable to some European countries, which yielded about N5 million British pounds for the state, Anambra State government said, yesterday, that it had received another order from the United Kingdom for scent leaf, popularly called Nchuanwu.

To meet the demand for the export, 40 cooperative societies from the three senatorial zones of the state have been empowered to grow the vegetable to be able to meet the order in the next two months.

A Canadian company has offered to sponsor the training of no fewer than 3,000 Nigerian filmmakers on animation, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has disclosed.

The minister disclosed this at the opening of the French, Japanese and Nigerian animated films festival on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the minister, the Canadian firm, Toon Boom, based in Montreal, will teach the Nigerian youths in animation technology.

An unidentified 12-year-old appeared in court Tuesday for stabbing another boy, 11-year-old Granville Bosel to death.

The 12-year-old was later released into his mother’s care while the investigation into the stabbing continued. The circumstances surrounding Bosel’s death is yet unknown.

Former Custom Boss, Abdullahi Dikko returns N1.4 billion, mansion seized

Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko who served as comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) between 2009 and 2015 has returned about N1.4 billion to the federal government.

The Punch reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) established that about N40 billion was diverted from the account of the NCS while he was in charge.

He was arrested by EFCC operatives but due to poor health, he was released.

ASUU says this is not the change Nigerians voted for

The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi has said the situation of the country was not the change Nigerians voted for.

Ogunyemi said this while speaking at a public lecture and distinguished service award organised by the University of Ibadan chapter of the union on Wednesday.

He regarded the change promised by the All Progressives Congress as cosmetic, stating that the union was ready to educate Nigerians on the real change.

Sultan Of Sokoto says "Recession Is Ordained By God"

Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III yesterday said the recession being experienced in the country and other parts of the world is ordained by God. “The only solution to this is for us to show piety and repent. It is ordained by God”, the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) said.

Sultan Abubakar spoke in Sokoto yesterday as activities for his 10th coronation anniversary commenced with the distribution of items.
