PHOTOs: Saraki signed the procurement act into law

The Senate on Thursday, June 16, passed the procurement act into law to make buying Nigerian made goods compulsory.

The bill is titled a bill for an act to amend the public procurement act to provide for ans adopt a local content policy and timely completion of procurement and for other related matters, 2016.

This decision was taken after consideration of the report of the committee on public procurement sponsored by Joshua Dariye representing Plateau West senatorial district.

The bill is titled procurement act 2007 (amendment) bill 2007 (SB. 232).

Fashionable thieves caught on CCTV stealing a pensioner's purse

Police are now in the hunt for a Brazen thieves who was caught stealing a pensioner's purse as she shopped in Aldi.

The men who targeted the unsuspecting elderly woman by dipping into her bag as she reached for items on the bottom shelf of a refrigerated section in the Birmingham-store.

CCTV footage shows the two crooks approach the woman and while one walks over to distract her the other reaches into her bag, which was hanging from a hook on the trolley, and steals her purse

Former world No 1 golfer withdraw from Rio Olympics due to fear of Zika virus

Former world No. 1 golfer, Rory Mcllroy, announced that he would no longer be able to represent Northern Ireland at the games after he sought advice from close associates.

“After speaking with those closest to me, I’ve come to realize that my health, and my family’s health, comes before anything else,” Mcllroy said.

“Even though the risk of infection from the Zika virus is considered low, it is a risk nonetheless, and a risk I am unwilling to take.”

BREAKING: Nigerian Senate adjourns till July 12

The Nigerian Senate has taken a two-weeks break from its activities. The decision was announced today, June 23, by Senate President, Bukola Saraki. 

According to Saraki, the upper chamber will adjourn plenary until Tuesday, July 12. It is not clear why the Senate embarked on this long break.

Heavy rain has caused serious flooding in some parts of the UK. There is a major disruption to the rail network, with many routes blocked by water and a number of London Underground lines have been suspended due to the rising floods. 

It has also affected homes, commercial properties, roads and even vehicles have been trapped. Some properties were reportedly struck by lightning, which also brought down a tree. 

President Buhari Gets New CSO

President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday in Abuja charged public officers entrusted with certain responsibilities to live up to their duties and justify the confidence reposed in them as this was the only way Nigeria can get out of the current hardships facing the nation.

President Buhari said this while decorating two of the newly promoted officers of the Nigerian Police Force deployed to his office with their new ranks.

Abdulkarim Dauda and Kayode Sikiru Akande, both promoted from the position of Assistant Commissioner of Police to Deputy Commissioner of Police, serve as the Chief Personal Security Officer to the President and the Officer in Charge of Presidential Movement respectively.

Three Australians working for a Perth-based mining company in Nigeria were among a group of seven men kidnapped after their vehicle was attacked in the country's south-east.

One of the group, West Australian Tim Croot, managed to escape along with a Nigerian driver. Mr Coot is being assisted by consular officials.

The hold-up, in which the driver was also shot dead, happened in the Akpabuyo district near the capital of Cross River State, Calabar, about 7am local time on Wednesday, June 22.

EFCC arraigns NNPC officials over Fuel Diversion

The EFCC has arraigned the duo of Munzali Ahmed and Alex Bala before Honourable Justice Idrissa Kolo of the Federal High Court, Kano.

The arraignment of the duo is based on a one count charge bordering on diversion of petrol by the accused persons. READ ALSO: Controversy: EFCC boss in trouble, attacked by Buhari’s chief of staff Munzali Ahmed is the sales representative of NNPC in Dutse, Jigawa state while Alex Bala is the NNPC sales representative in Hotoro, Kano. 

They were arrested by EFCC Operatives Special Task Force in March 2016 following intelligence reports of their nefarious activities.

Federal Government reveals why Sambo Dasuki must undergo secret trial

The federal government has insisted that all witnesses that would testify against the former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki must be protected. 

At a hearing in court today, June 23, the prosecuting counsel, Dipo Okpesyi said if not protected, the witnesses in that would testify during the trial stand a risk of being harmed by loyalists to the former national security adviser. 

Okpesyi in his argument said that Dasuki still has strong ties and many loyalists serving in the military. He said these loyalists might go after the witnesses followings the outcome of their testimonies during his trial. 

He also told the court that during the investigation of the matter, many sophisticated weapons were discovered from Dasuki. Okpeseyi said that the weapons discovered indicate that the defendant poses as a threat to national security.
