Police's toddler dies from overheating in back of patrol car while she visited male colleague (PHOTO)


An American police officer's three-year-old daughter has died after being left unattended in a patrol car while her mom visited the home of a male colleague.

Cheyenne Hyer was pronounced dead in hospital on Friday after being left in the vehicle, which had been running for four hours.

Breaking | FG withdraws forgery charges against Saraki, Ekweremadu


The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed a motion to withdraw the charge of criminal conspiracy against Senate President Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

An affidavit in support of the motion was filed before the High Court of Federal Capital Territory on Thursday by a litigation officer from the Federal Ministry of Justice, Odubu Loveme.

Messrs. Saraki and Ekweremadu, as well as a former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and a former Deputy clerk, Ben Efeturi, were first arraigned before Justice Yusuf Halilu on June 10, 2016 via charge No. CR/219/16.

#EdoDecides: INEC presents certificates of return to Obaseki


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday in Benin, presented certificates of return to Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shuaibu, winners of Edo gubernatorial election.

Dr Mustafa Muhammed, INEC National Commissioner in-charge of South-South zone, presented the certificates to the governor-elect and his deputy.

In a brief remark, Obaseki said he dedicated his victory to God Almighty, adding that one of the reasons he contested the poll was to expand and attract resources into state.

N4 billion Fraud: EFCC arrest ‘wonder bank’ operator in Enugu


Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday arrested the Managing Director of “Lets Partner With You Ltd”, Mr. Patrick Shanchi Nwokike at his residence in Enugu, Enugu state.

It was gathered that his arrest was following over a hundred petitions from across the country over his alleged operation of a Wonder bank.

Petitions from a cross section of Nigerians and cutting across religious, gender, ethnic, economic and social class, indicate that the company had over the past five years solicited and obtained deposits of more than N4,000,000,000 (Four Billion Naira Only) from the general public with promise of mouth-watering interest in return.

Tanko Yakasai blames current economy mess on below par appointee of Pres Buhari


Second Republic politician, who was once the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has affirmed that some current members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet are incompetent.

According to him, most of the appointees do not posses what it takes to serve as minister, hence the reason for the current confusion and economic mess.

The elder statesman also believes that the much-publicized anti-corruption crusade championed by the current government was overrated, adding that the presidency was only using the anti-graft agency as propaganda tool to punish preserved political enemies.

Typhoon Chaba Hits South Korea, Six Killed


At least six people have been killed after Typhoon Chaba battered South Korea, authorities said.

The southern cities of Busan and Ulsan were worst affected, as well as the resort island of Jeju.

Transport, schools, factories and the country's main port ground to a halt. Footage showed muddy floodwaters rushing through city streets.

NFF to offset Super Eagles’ Tanzania Match Bonuses


The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has promised to offset the Super Eagles win bonus for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Tanzania.

The Eagles defeated the Tanzanians 1- 0 in September during a final 2017 AFCON qualifier in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital in southeast Nigeria.

Yemi Osinbajo says Corruption Largely Affected Anti-Insurgency War


Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, says massive corruption that existed in the Armed Forces over the years is the major reason the Boko Haram insurgents ravaged the northeast with ease over the years.

The Vice President made the observation on Thursday at the convocation ceremony for cadets of 63 Regular Course and Postgraduate students of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), in Kaduna state.

He noted that Boko Haram terrorists gained more grounds in the region over a long period due to the failure of the previous administration to provide the needed equipment, supplies and welfare for the fighting troops in theatre of operations.

Lagos School Kidnap: Police Rescue Two Persons


Two of the five people kidnapped from the Model College, Igbo Nla in Epe area of Lagos have been rescued by the Police operatives deployed to the area.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni said that efforts are on to rescue others as more operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have been deployed.

Two students, a teacher, two vice principals of the school were kidnapped by suspected militants in the early hours of Thursday.

The former national secretary of the PDP, Professor Adewale Oladepo, says they are setting up a 24-man committee to reorganize the party.

ECOWAS, UNHCR Sign MoU to Resolve IDPs, Others Issues


The United Nations High Commission for Refugees has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Economic Community of West African States, to jointly improve the situation of displaced people in the West African sub-region.

The UNHCR  has also predicted that people living in the Bakassi area may not be able to prove a link with either Nigeria or Cameroon in the nearest future.

The commission’s representative to Nigeria, Mrs Angele Dikongue-Atangana, made this known at a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

Nigeria Customs impounded goods worth N101.5m


The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Zone ‘A’ Federal Operations Unit, Lagos, says it intercepted prohibited items with a duty paid value of N101.5 million in September.

Area Controller, Umar Dahiru, told newsmen on Thursday in Lagos that the unit also recovered N30.1 million on false declaration, undervaluation and evasion of duty payment from vehicles and other goods.

Federal Government to setup National Agency for Cancer Control


Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has announced that Federal Government is tinkering with the possibility of setting up National Agency for Cancer Control (NACC) in Nigeria.

The Minister made this known during an audience with Director, Head of Eastern Europe, Middle East, African (EEMEA ) region, F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, Pharmaceuticals Division Dr. Peter HUG in Abuja.

The minister explained that the institution, when establish would be responsible for research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and palliative care for cancer patients. It will also provide leadership and technical direction for cancer control in Nigeria integrating services provided by the National Cancer Centre and in cooperating a cluster of public and private tertiary Hospitals.

Gunmen who came in a speedboat stormed Igbo Nla Model College in the Igbo Nla, Epe area of Lagos State on Thursday and abducted four persons in the school.

According to Punch, it was learnt that the abductors who shot sporadically into the air, initially took four pupils, with the vice-principal and a teacher and headed for the waterway.

18-year-old JSS pupil in court for stealing N200, using charms


An 18-year-old secondary school pupil, Sadiq Adegbite, who allegedly stole N200 from a fellow pupil and used charm to harass other colleagues, was on Thursday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused, a pupil of Junior High School, Ogudu, Lagos, is facing a three counts of conspiracy, stealing and disorderly conduct.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, said the complainant, a 15-year-old student of the school, came to Ogudu Police Station to report the incident.
