Three US officials say the United States and Russia have reached agreement on a cease-fire in southwest Syria, as President Donald Trump held his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Politico reports.

This marks a new level for the U.S. in trying to resolve the civil war in Syria. Details about the agreement and mode of implementation were not immediately available, but the cease-fire will take effect Sunday at noon Damascus time.

According to the officials, Jordan and Israel are part of the agreement The two U.S. allies share a border with the southern part of Syria and have been concerned the violence from Syria would spill over the border.
