Edo PDP Crisis: “Sheriff is turning himself to a comedian” - State Excos

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the suspension of the States Executive issued by Ali Modu Sheriff. “He has no right to do what he is doing. But we know he is being sponsored by the All Progressives Congress. The most interesting part of it is that even those he picked as members of his caretaker committee are all flying documents of the illegal kangaroo committee,” said the PDP publicity secretary in Edo, Chris Nehikhare. “It is laughable and he is turning himself into a comedian in the mode of Baba Sala.”

Recall, Ali Modu Sheriff, the factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is waging a dedicated fight against the different power centres in the party. Even though the party’s board of trustees, state governors, lawmakers, and even rank and file members at the national convention have sacked him as chairman, he continues to press his case. Unless a resolution is reached soon, Sheriff’s insistence could cost the party a fighting chance in the forthcoming governorship polls in Edo and Ondo.

Ahmed Makarfi is the interim chairman of the party as agreed at the party’s national convention. His faction conducted a primary in Edo which produced Pastor Ize Iyamu as candidate. Sheriff has however dismissed the primary and set up a committee to conduct a fresh one. He also suspended the state executive, replacing them with an 8-member caretaker committee with Chief Ebenezer Alabi as Chairman and Zealiwe‎ Edmund as Secretary.
