Kanye West is begging to be sued. Just over 12 hours after the rapper released his instantly-controversial “Famous” music video, he’s bracing himself for a lawsuit.
As Gossip Cop reported, the nudity-filled visual for “Famous” premiered during a screening at the Forum in Los Angeles on Friday night. The clip depicts 12 naked celebrities in bed together: West, wife Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Caitlyn Jenner, Amber Rose, Ray J, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Bill Cosby, Anna Wintour, Donald Trump and George W. Bush. It’s believed most of the figures are wax sculptures, but West’s camp has declined to say which people actually posed for the video.
That said, Cosby, Wintour, Trump, Bush, and Swift most certainly did not. Whether they have any grounds to take legal action against West for making them appear nude is unclear. But the performer tweeted on Saturday, “Can somebody sue me already #I’llwait.”
A rep for Swift has not responded to a request for comment, nor has Hope Hicks, the press spokesperson for Trump’s presidential campaign. A rep for Jenner had “no idea” if she consented to appear in the clip when contacted by Gossip Cop. And so far, Brown is the only one to speak out about the project, joking on Instagram about his wax figure’s b*** crack being exposed.
West took inspiration for the visual from Vincent Desiderio’s famous “Sleep” painting,” which similarly shows a group of people in bed together. In an interview with Vanity Fair, he insisted, “We were very careful with shots that had [something] sexual to take them out.” The musician further offered, “It’s a comment on fame.” Whether that comment is protected by law, and if any of the aforementioned celebrities will take action against it, remains to be seen.
