A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joseph Edogiawere and the management of Protea Hotel reported the crime which was captured by the hotel CCTV camera to Adesuwa Police Station on the 13th of March.

The Police image maker said the suspect was arrested, and he confessed to the crime and also claimed to have hidden the money between the fence of the hotel and NNPC Mega Station.

He said the Police went with the suspect with a view to recovering the exhibit, but on getting to the scene, and as they were alighting from the vehicle, the suspect immediately took to his heels.

DSP Edogiawere said in the process, the suspect ran into a moving Toyota Camry Car with registration number FUG 93 JD, and the vehicle dragged him from Central Road to First East Circular Junction on Sapele Road before it came to a halt.

The Police image maker said the suspect sustained bruises on his body and he was immediately rushed to UBTH with the assistance of some good Samaritans.

He said the driver of the vehicle has been arrested for causing the death of the suspect, while the vehicle has been impounded.

Mr. Edogiawere said it is unfortunate that those he described as misinformed members of the public have twisted the truth to cast aspersion on the image and the professional manner the police have handled the case.
