Nigeria Customs uplifts Ban on Rice Importation


The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), has ordered the immediate lifting of the ban on rice importation from import restriction list and the re-introduction of import duty payment at land borders. Public Relations Officer of customs, Wale Adeniyi announced this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja .

On Saturday, September 3, Mrs. Olajumoke Adewole, a nursing mother, was relaxing with her baby 2016 when her housemaid, Esther headed to the bank to withdraw the sum of N30,000 for her mistress. She headed to a branch of one of the banks around Kollington Bus Stop (bank’s name withheld) in Alagbado area of Lagos State ..

Moments later, Mrs. Adewole received two separate debit alerts indicating that Esther had withdrawn the sum of N30,000 from her bank account as she was instructed.

But confusion would later set in for the mother of three. More than an hour after she received the debit alerts, her maid failed to return home.

Over 140 killed in Yemen airstrike - Officials


A Saudi-led coalition airstrike hit a funeral hall packed with thousands of mourners in Yemen's capital Saturday, killing over 140 people and wounding more than 525 in one of the deadliest single attacks of the country's civil war, a U.N. official said.

Saudi Arabia announced early Sunday it would launch an investigation into "reports about the regrettable and painful bombing" in Sanaa, without immediately acknowledging that its coalition battling rebels in Yemen is the only force with air power in the conflict.

It is the latest in a string of bombings by the coalition that have struck hospitals, markets and other places civilians congregate.

Palm Springs Shooting: Two officers dead, one injured


Two police officers were shot and killed and another was wounded Saturday while responding to a domestic disturbance in a Palm Springs residential area, authorities say.

Dozens of police massed outside a house where a suspect appeared to be holed up. Officers took defensive positions behind a patrol car and a concrete wall.
"Today Palm Springs lost two brave officers," Palm Springs Police Chief Bryan Reyes said at a news conference, his voice shaking with emotion. "I am awake in a nightmare right now."

Archbishop Desmond Tutu Says He Wants To Die By Assisted Suicide


South Africa’s retired Anglican archbishop and anti-apartheid icon Desmond Tutu, marked his 85th birthday yesterday. He also announced same yesterday, that he wants the right to end his own life.

The anti-apartheid veteran said laws against helping people to die should be abolished. He claimed he has the right to be ‘allowed to pass on to the next phase in the manner of my choice’.

According to Paden, a professor of international studies, in his book, ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria’, Buhari often skipped school, which earned beatings by the schoolmaster.

Governor Wike alleges plot to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State. According to a statement signed by Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, the illegal siege on Rivers State by Federal security agencies continued unabated during the early hours of Saturday as hundreds of Department of State Services (DSS) operatives and policemen attempted to illegally abduct a Federal High Court judge residing at Number 35 Forces Avenue in Port Harcourt.

The illegal failed abduction was led by Mr Tosin Ajayi, Rivers State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr Francis Odesanya.

Godwin Ejeh, a senior secondary school student of Jesus College, Otukpo Benue State, was electrocuted to death in the school hostel on October 6th while trying to charge his mobile phone. According to the school principal Mr Ella Samuel, who spoke to Idoma Voice, the 18-year-old died while attempting to charge his phone directly from a naked wire.

Troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army stationed in Anchau, Kubau Local Government Area of kaduna State, on Wednesday, October 5th, arrested 2 kidnappers in the process of collecting ransom from a kidnap victim's family in the area.

The arrest followed a tip off by well meaning Nigerians that the kidnappers had arrived Dutsen Wai for ransom collection from their hapless victim's family. On receipt of information, the troops swung into action in an unmarked car and trailed them to the rendezvous for the collection.

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria on Saturday said that Nigeria has over two million recorded cases of cancer with 100, 000 new cases annually.

The association made this known in a communique issued by its President, Alhaji Toyosi Raheem, at the end of its 52nd Annual Scientific Conference and workshop in Jalingo.

Raheem attributed the high rate of tumour and cancer in the country to a shift from the consumption of natural to artificial food and lack of regular physical exercise by citizens.

President Buhari lauds South Africa over Okah’s conviction


President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the South African Government to commend the country’s Supreme Court of Appeal’s judgement that confirmed the conviction of Mr. Henry Okah over terrorism charges.

The court was said to have on Monday upheld a 20-year prison term for Okah having found him guilty on two out of the six-counts relating to the Warri bombings levelled against him.


The court was also said to have affirmed a 12-year sentence for his role in the October 1, 2010 Abuja bombing.
