TRAGIC: 25 children die of mysterious disease in Lekki

No fewer than 25 children have been confirmed dead following an outbreak of the Febrile Rash Illnesses (FRI) in Otodo-Gbame community in Ikate, Lekki. At a news conference in Lagos today February 19th, the Lagos state commissioner for Health, Jide Idris, said though the source of the disease is still unknown, 34 cases of sick children with FRI is currently being treated while the graves of 20 children have been identified by their parents.

“The graves of 20 children who died from the FRI since the day of onset of signs and symptoms in the first case on January 6 were identified by their parents. Also, 34 cases have been line listed so far with 17 males and 17 females; 17 dead patients have been identified with nine males and eight females, all are within the age range of eight and 72 months. The source of the infection is still under investigation and until we know the required source, we cannot say for sure, what is causing it.”he said

It was a sad news yesterday as a pregnant woman named Ijeoma Nwokedi, died on board an Arik Flight from Port Harcourt to Lagos today February 19th.

A statement from the airline company says that the woman who suffered complications mid air, was confirmed dead when the plane arrived Lagos.

EFCC submits application to seize assets of ex-militant leader, Tompolo

A Federal High Court in Lagos has received an application from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission- requesting for an order to seize assets belonging to a former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo.

The EFCC says it intends to seize Tompolo’s assets until he appears before the court to answer charges of N45.9bn fraud preferred against him.

The anti-graft agency had filed a 40-count charge against Tompolo, the immediate-past Director-General of NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi and eight others.

NDDC Director nab for trying to bribe EFCC operative with N150K for ‘recharge cards’

Roberts Obuoha, a Director in Project Management Department of the Niger Delta Development Commission, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission- for bribery.

Obuoha, who is being investigated by the anti-graft agency, was invited by the EFCC to write a statement on contract splitting and inflation in the commission.

Subsequently, he was arrested while attempting to bribe the EFCC South-South Zonal Head, Ishaq Salihu, with N150, 000.

Bizarre! Mother of Three Vomits Cocaine at Abuja Airport

Saidat Hassan a 48yrs mother of three reportedly vomited 15 wraps of cocaine at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja.

Vanguard reports that this happened during screening at the departure hall as officers checked passengers boarding an Egypt Airline flight to Jedda, Saudi Arabia en-route Cairo.

Speaking with the press, the commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abuja, Hamisu Lawan said that the agency made efforts to prevent any harm coming to the mother after screening showed she had swallowed 80 wraps of cocaine. “As soon as we discovered that the wraps she vomited tested positive for cocaine, we took measures to ensure her safety by preventing any harm that may result from drug ingestion,” Lawan said, explaining measures they took to avoid any of the wraps from bursting in her stomach. “She excreted sixty-five (65) similar wraps. In all, she ingested 80 wraps of cocaine weighing 904 grammes; her case is under investigation.”

This is Monalisa Chinda’s second marriage. The 41-year-old TV host was previously married to TV producer Segun Dejo-Richards, but the union failed after she found out he was still married to another woman.
