Just In: Niger State Tribunal sacks Zagbayi Nuhu, declares APC David Umaru Winner in Senatorial Election

The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Minna on Friday declared David Umaru of of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the August 30 election in the Niger East Senatorial District.

 The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Zagbayi Nuhu, was initially declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, after a rerun.

Earlier today, wife of Nollywood actor, Jide kosoko, Henrietta Kosoko, was involved in an accident along Sagamu Abeokuta road this afternoon. She was traveling in her grey color SUV when her car veered off the road and hit a standing PHCN pole. Residents came to her rescue and rushed her to the hospital.

The rap mogul was declared a wanted man by police yesterday following a hit-and-run in Los Angeles in which one man died.

His lawyer James Blatt insisted he would be turning himself in, which has now happened.

Teenager use fake gun to storm Dutch broadcaster Headquarter

A 19-year-old brandishing a fake weapon threatened a security guard to gain access to the headquarters of Dutch national broadcaster NOS and demand air time, before police stormed a TV studio to arrest him.

Nobody was injured in the incident near Amsterdam on Thursday night, but it forced NOS off air for around an hour and set the Netherlands on edge, coming just weeks after the deadly attack on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris that left 12 people dead.

When NOS came back on air, it showed recorded footage of the young man, wearing a black suit, white shirt and black tie, and carrying a pistol with what looked like a silencer attached.

Edwin Clark Blasts Danjuma Over Call For Arrest Of Ex-militants

A new twist to the article publish by former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd.) has seen Elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark on Thursday, expressed disappointment over the call by the General. In the call Danjuma called on the ex-Niger Delta militants to be arrested and prosecuted for warning that there would be war if President Goodluck Jonathan loses the presidential election on February 14.

Clark said Danjuma should have condemned the attacks on Jonathan in several states in the North instead of calling for the arrest of the ex-militants. He wondered why the former army chief would condemn some and not others.

Buhari opt out of Presidential debate Organized by BON - APC Statement

APC says it's presidential candidate Gen Buhari will not be participating in the presidential debate being organized by the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria BON and the Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG) .

In a statement released today January 29th by Garna Shehu, the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO), they said Buhari will not be participating in the debate as the composition of those organizing the debate was mainly of agencies and allies of the incumbent People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) administration.

Report: African Union to dedicate regional force to fight Boko Haram

Amidst the risen threat of Boko Harm in Nigeria, the African Union has called for a regional five-nation force of 7,500 troops to defeat the "horrendous" rise of the Nigerian armed group Boko Haram, AU Commission Chief Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has said.

The statement on Friday came after Boko Haram increased cross border raids in recent weeks, in neighbouring countries such as Cameroon and Chad, as it continued to take over more territory in Nigeria.

Report: US contractors 'killed in insider attack' in Kabul

 

Three American contractors were killed in an apparent insider attack in the Afghan capital Kabul, an Afghan air force official told Reuters news agency.

"It is unclear yet why he shot these advisers and no one else was there to tell us the reason," the official said, asking not to be named because he was not authorised to give statements to the media.

Bird Flu Updates: Minister Confirms 11 States Affected in Nigeria

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Akinwumi Adesina, on Wednesday confirmed the outbreak of bird flu in 11 states of the federation.

Adesina announced that the Federal Government had approved N145 million to compensate farmers affected by the outbreak of the disease.

He made the disclosure at an emergency meeting on Avian Influenza with state commissioners for agriculture in Abuja.
