Lt. Col Muhammad Abu Ali, was really loved by his fellow soldiers as video showing his promotion to the rank of Lt Col, has surfaced online. For his gallantry and bravery, Ali was promoted and decorated by the Chief of Army staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai in Sept 2015.
Muhammad Ali, a recipient of the Chief of Army Staff Award for exceptional bravery and excellence, led the army units that recovered Gamboru-Ngala, Baga and several communities from the terrorists.
He died in confrontation with suspected Boko Haram terrorists who attacked 119 Battalion, Nigerian Army location at Mallam Fatori on Friday, in a failed attempt to capture the town.
Four other soldiers also died in the attack.
