Peter Odili says Senate not amending EFCC Act because of him

Erstwhile governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, has disputed the account of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on issues surrounding the status of his trial.

His reaction followed a report on November 28, 2016, where the South-South regional head of the commission, Mr. Ishaq Salihu, told a Senate delegation that perpetual injunction obtained by Dr. Odili, the former governor was affecting the morale of operatives as well as the prosecution of other suspects allegedly involved in the case.

Responding through Mr. Emma Okah, a former spokesman and incumbent Commissioner for Housing in Rivers State, Dr. Odili said the Senate never said it was amending the EFCC Act because of him.

According to him, the matter had been taken to full trial and the EFCC was represented by a SAN.
“The EFCC lost the case, refused to appeal for years, and just appealed recently. Vanguard even serialised the judgment when it serialised Odili’s book,” Mr. Okah said.
Dr. Odili served as governor of Rivers State between 1999 and 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and had been dragged to court by the EFCC over allegations bordering on corruption while in office.
