Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho stretchered off during Sunderland's match

Liverpool has been handed a huge injury scare after Philippe Coutinho was stretchered off midway through Saturday’s game against Sunderland.

The Brazilian went down following a challenge inside the Sunderland penalty area and immediately called for medical attention.

The medical team attended to him for several minutes before he was carried off on a stretcher with a protective splint on his right foot.

Divock Origi replaced the Brazil international in the 34th minute at Anfield, with the scoreline still 0-0.

Coutinho has been in fine form for Liverpool this season and his contribution of five goals in 12 Premier League matches has helped Jurgen Klopp’s side look like genuine title contenders.
