Ahmed Makarfi: PDP leadership crisis will be over before the end of December

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Caretaker Committee Chairman, Sen Ahmed Makarfi, has predicted that the leadership crises that have bedeviled the party will be over by the end of the year.

Speaking in Abuja, the former Kaduna State governor said the decision to give the caretaker committee a one-year extension in Port Harcourt during the party’s National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in August was a right decision.

According to Makarfi, before the tenure of his committee expires, the Supreme Court would have settled the leadership crises ravaging the party.

“Now, we are in the Supreme Court. That is an achievement. Hopefully, before the end of the year, we should be able to resolve this crisis,” Markafi said.
Recall that the leading opposition party has been in crises since its first inconclusive National Congress which saw the emergence of the Sen Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in May 2016.

Following the inauguration of the committee, factional leader of the party, Sen Ali Modu Sheriff had dragged the party before an Abuja Federal High Court, which in its ruling sacked the Caretaker Committee, saying it was illegally constituted.

Despite the court ruling, the party during the rescheduled convention on August 17, 2016, still in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, extended the tenure of the Makarfi-led committee by one year.

However, both aggrieved camps recently agreed to sheathe their sword and give peace a chance.

The matter is currently before the Supreme Court, which will decide who is the authentic leader of the party.
