Gernot Rohr Names Eagles Squad To Face Algeria in World Cup Qualifiers Fixture

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has named a 24-man squad for the Super Eagles’ second World Cup Qualifier against Algeria.

The squad includes regulars like Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, captain Mikel Obi, Lazio’s Ogenyi Onazi and Leicester’s Ahmed Musa.

Striker Odion Ighalo earns a recall to the squad after missing the last match to attend the burial of his father while Chelsea’s Victor Moses gets another chance to impress the coach after pulling out of the last squad due to an injury.

Rio 2016 hero Etebo Oghenekaro, gets a first chance to impress the new coach, alongside Israel-based John Ogu.

The Eagles, who had been placed in a tough group that also includes two former African Champions, Zambia and Cameroon, started off on a good note with a 2-1 victory in Zambia.

The win left the Eagles on 3 points, 2 points ahead of Algeria and Cameroon who played out a 1-1 draw in the other group game.

Nigeria’s next match is against Algeria on November 12.

Only the top team will qualify from the group as one of Africa’s five representatives to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
