A pensioner who blocked a hospital bed for 11 months after refusing to leave has been evicted and hit with an £8,000 legal bill.

Diane Price, 79, was admitted to a private room in a rehab unit for two weeks after she broke a leg in May last year.

She got a clean bill of health in November and bosses at Lewes Victoria Hospital, East Sussex, pleaded with her to leave – but she refused.

UK Mirror reports that, staff even put her in an ambulance to take her home to nearby Hailsham but she climbed out and went back in.Mrs Price was also ordered to pay £8,000 in costs.

She was finally evicted at around 10am .But it later emerged she was being admitted to another hospital after dialling 999 and saying she could not use the toilet at home or walk.

Mrs Price said:
“The case they have presented is lies and it shocks me to think they would make a scapegoat out of an old, vulnerable woman to hide the lack of care.
“They say I am rehabilitated but I can’t support myself. It’s been making me ill and I tried to take my own life I was so upset.”
