8-year-old pupil says Security Guard called her to a corner and raped her

A primary 2 pupil of Adeniyi Primary School, Itire, a public school in Lagos state, has narrated how a security guard raped her.

The eight-year-old girl, identified only as Mercy said the guard, Friday Oshoba, popularly called Mopol, called her to a corner within the school premises after school hours and removed her underwear, the Punch reports.

Oshoba was said to have persuaded her to follow him to a deserted spot within the school and after removing her underwear, he raped her.

According to the minor, “I was in the school on May 11 at about 2pm waiting for my sister to pick me up when Mopol called me to a place on the school premises.
“He removed my underwear and put his thing (manhood) inside my bum-bum.
“Bukola, who is in primary five, saw us and reported to her teacher. I also told my daddy when I got home.”
An uncle of the girl reportedly followed her to the school the following day and reported the matter to the head teacher who was said to have invited policemen from the Itire division, leading to Oshoba’s arrest.

A social worker at the Mirabel Centre, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, where medical examinations were reportedly carried out on the victim, said she had bruises in her private parts.

The 40-year-old suspect, however, denied raping the girl.

He said he barely knew the girl let alone raping her.

But asked if he took Mercy to any spot as alleged, Oshoba was reportedly silent.

In his statement, the suspect, an indigene of Ekpoma, Edo State said, “The girl is one of our pupils in Adeniyi Primary School. I did not even know her name, but I know she is in Primary two.
“I did not do anything with her. I was married, but my wife left me and I don’t have any child,” he added.
Meanwhile, Oshoba was on Monday charged before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for the alleged act.

The police prosecutor, Francisca Job, told the court the accused was facing a one count of rape, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Adegbite, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
