2 Snipers open fire on 11 Police Officers And 3 Killed At Black Lives Matter Protest In Dallas

NBC 5 reports that the officers were shot in downtown Dallas, on Thursday.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown initially informed the network that two snipers shot 10 police officers from elevated positions. Three are dead, two in surgery, and three in critical condition, according to Brown.
"Tonight it appears that two snipers shot 10 police officers from elevated positions during the protest/rally," Brown said in a statement. "Three officers are deceased, two are in surgery and three are in critical condition. An intensive search for suspects is currently underway. No suspects are in custody at this time. We ask that any citizen with information regarding the shootings tonight call 214-671-3482."
The shootings reportedly occurred during a rally and march that showed solidarity for communities affected by the officer-involved shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.

Police Chief David Brown said a press conference late Thursday: "We also believe that the suspects have threatened to plan a bomb in the downtown area. We have reached out to our federal law-enforcement partners both the FBI and the ATF to help us search for the suspects or maybe more and to do a very thorough search of the area where we believe there might be a bomb planted."

Dallas Police Sr. Corporal Debra Webb said in the statement to the Associated Press that police were sorting through information at what was "clearly still an active scene."

Hundreds of people reportedly gathered at Dallas' Belo Garden Park, marching to the Old Red Courthouse at around 9 p.m before shots were fired.

It is unclear if any civilians were hurt in the shooting.

ABC 7 affiliate WKBW at least 20 gunshots were heard during the exchange between a gunman and officers.

Any citizen with information regarding the shooting should call 214-671–3482.
