Community Chairman in Edo State killed in Election Violence

The Chairman of Obagienevbosa Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Igie Osayande, has been clubbed to death by thugs.

The victim was reportedly shot along with his brother, Igie Obafuedo, said to have been taken to a hospital for medical attention.

The incident was said to have occurred on Saturday during voting at Ward 9, Units 9, 10 and 11 in the community located off Sapele road.

According to an All Progressives Congress agent, the attackers had stormed the voting centre ordering to be accredited, long after accreditation had ended.

According to the source, efforts by the leaders of the thugs “to get accreditation were rebuffed by the presiding officer, who told him that voting had already commenced.

The source added, “He was then prevailed upon by the policeman on duty at the unit to leave the area.”

He was said to have been accosted by the deceased, who tried to prevent him from disrupting the exercise.

The victim was, however, met with stiff opposition from other members of the gang who beat him to death.

The source said, “He returned to the ward after with his boys, scattered the ballot boxes and tore the ballot papers into shreds.

“In an attempt to resist them, the APC youth leader, Igie Osagiede, was attacked by the thugs and clubbed to death.‎”
