Assistant Inspector General Of Police Dies


The police Force has officially announced the sudden death of AIG Ibrahim Maishanu, who died February 8, 2015 while undergoing treatment at an Indian Hospital. The deceased was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information Technology, Force Headquarters, Abuja until his death.

Maishanu was from Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, born on October 11, 1959 and enlisted into the Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on January 1, 1984. He had his initial training at the Nigeria Police College, Ikeja, Lagos. He held a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and had attended several professional courses both at home and abroad. He was an alumnus of NIPSS.

Meanwhile, Suleiman Abba, who is the Inspector-General of Police, as a matter of urgency, has redeployed 33 Commissioners of Police to various Commands and Formations.

Punch reports that in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja on today, the urgent redeployment is all in a bid to enhance the effectiveness and efficacy of the Nigeria Police Force. According to the statement,

“The postings are in line with efforts to reposition the Force, filling vacancies created and in view of officers proceeding on course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, as well as posting of returning senior officers from NIPSS.”

Recall that a few weeks ago, the Force redeployed 14 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to different commands as part of preparations for the forthcoming general elections. However, some of the CPs affected by the latest redeployment include, Danladi Mshelbwala, who was moved from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit to Kebbi State; Ibrahim Idris from Police Mobile Force to Kano State; Shuaibu Gambo from Sokoto State to Counter-Terrorism Unit, FHQ, Abuja; Musa Mohammed, from NIPSS to Oyo State and Usman Abubakar from NIPSS Jos to Jigawa State Command.
