A murderer tried to break out of jail disguised as a woman - but was caught after guards noticed he was 'walking funny' and 'speaking in a man's voice,' it was reported Wednesday. Francisco Herrera Argueta, 55, dressed as a lady with a long skirt, blonde wig and fake breasts as he attempted to leave the maximum security jail along with other inmates' families following visiting hours.

The prisoner had planned to pretend he was a female visitor to the jail, Jacinta Elvira Araujo, who had left her identity card with guards as she entered the prison in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on Sunday afternoon.

Red Cross seeks more blood donors for Boko Haram victims


The Nigeria Red Cross in Yobe has embarked on sensitisation campaign to raise 100 new blood donors as part of a medical recovery programme for post-Boko Haram insurgency, Mr Zabu Buba, said.

Buba, who is Branch Secretary and State Officer of the group in charge of Yobe, disclosed this on Wednesday in Damaturu in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

Ex-convicts appointed chief of staff to South Korea’s new President, Moon


The right hand man to South Korea’s new president is a former pro-democracy activist who spent more than three years in prison for organising an unauthorised trip to the North.

On his first day in office, Moon Jae-In named Im Jong-Seok to be his chief of staff, the second most powerful position in a political system which concentrates authority in the president.

Im, a 51-year-old former two-term lawmaker with the Democratic Party, was a prominent student activist in the 1980s and, like Moon, protested against military rule.

United States says Buhari's agenda in line with their expectations

 

The United States on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda were in line with its expectations.

The Deputy Director, Office of West African Affairs, Bureau of African Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, Mr Nathan Holt, made the remarks on Tuesday from Washington, D.C. via teleconference on: ‘Nigeria, a critical U.S. partner’.

Holt said: “In 2015, Nigeria had a very important election. It elected Muhammadu Buhari as president.

Presidency: Boko Haram took good care of released 82 Chibok girls than previous 21 released girls


Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Monday observed that Boko Haram insurgents took good care of the released 82 Chibok girls.

The girls were released in great shape with no visible sign of abuse, unlike the other 21 Chibok girls freed last year, October, who came in poor shape, Shehu said.

He also disclosed that most of the girls released were not from Chibok town but villages scattered around the area.
