PDP says Buhari’s anti-corruption war is a big fraud


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war is nothing but a big scam.

The party was reacting to the President’s clearance of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. David Babachir Lawal, of corruption allegations.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesman of the PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said clearing Magu and Lawal “has finally confirmed our earlier assertion that the ‘anti-corruption war’ of the All Progressive Congress (APC)- led administration is a ruse; a witch-hunting mechanism to harass PDP members and perceived enemies of this administration.”

President Trump approve order to start Mexico border wall project


US President Donald Trump took a first step toward fulfilling his pledge to “build a wall” on the Mexican border Wednesday, signing two immigration­related decrees.

Trump visited the Department of Homeland Security to sign an order to begin work to “build a large physical barrier on the southern border,” according to the White House.

New 'Mega Party' ADP submits documents to INEC for registration


Promoters and supports of the mega political party, the Action Democratic Party, ADP yesterday submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, all required documents, preparatory to full registration as one of the major political parties in Nigeria ahead of the 2019 Presidential and general elections.

Led by the Protem National Chairman, Engr. Yagbayi Sani and other Interim officers, supporters of the association arrived INEC yesterday at 1 00pm in a long motorcade amidst fan fare, drumming, singing and dancing. However, while the members were stopped from gaining entry into the premise of the Commission, the Chairman and a few others with the registration documents were allowed into the Premises. 

Nigeria police chief in London to meet Metropolitan police - Spokesperson


The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, has embarked on an official visit to London on the invitation of SO15, the London Metropolitan Police Service.

The SO15 is part of the Metropolitan Police Service Counter Terrorism Command that works for the protection of London and the United Kingdom, against threats of terrorism.

This visit is part of the gains of the International donor platform established by the IGP on assumption of office in June 2016 to empower police personnel in modern techniques of fighting organised crimes.

NAFDAC warn against use of ‘dangerous’ skin lightening creams


The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has cautioned the public against the use of skin lightning creams containing ‘mercury’ and ‘hydroquinone above two per cent’ that are dangerous to health.

The agency’s state coordinator, Natim Mullah-Dadi gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Kaduna.

He said such cream have adverse effects on health.

Nigerian Army Recruitment is free - Official


The Nigerian Army has said recruitment into the army is free and no one is expected to pay for it.

The Army said this in a statement by its spokesperson, Sani Usman.

According to the lady, the ATM card was stolen on January 1st at Idimu/Egbeda aixis but she just got his details and photos of the culprit which was captured by the CCTV cammera.

The group is calling for the immediate release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who was arrested in Dec 2015 following the clash between the group and the Nigerian Army officers in Zaria, Kaduna.

Usain Bolt has been stripped of one of his nine Olympic gold medals after it was confirmed that his 4x100m relay team-mate Nesta Carter tested positive for a banned substance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. 

An anomaly was discovered in Carter's submission following a decision by International Olympic Committee (IOC) to retest 454 doping samples from Beijing using the latest scientific analysis methods. It was found to contain banned stimulant, methylhexaneamine.

Exercise regularly to avoid stroke - Group preaches


The Director, Stroke Action Group, Dr Biodun Ogungbo, on Wednesday advised Nigerians to cultivate the habit of regular physical exercise to avoid stroke.

Ogungbo, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja said “stroke occurs when a blood clot or a cholesterol plaque wanders into the brain until it reaches a narrow point where it becomes trapped.’’

He said that intake of balanced diet and reduction on salt consumption could prevent stroke.

EFCC re-arraigns ex-NAF chief on N7bn money laundering charges


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday re-arraigned a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Mohammed Umar (retd), before the Federal High Court, Abuja on seven counts of money laundering.

The prosecution accused him of criminal breach of trust and corruption involving about N7.382bn.

It alleged that Umar removed the money from the account of the Nigerian Air Force while the accused was the Chief of Air Staff.

Two teenagers who gang-raped a 19-year-old girl arraign in court


Two teenagers were on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly gang-raping a 19-year-old girl.

The defendants- Daniel Harrison, 18, an apprentice, and Uche Osakwe, 19, a fashion designer, are being tried for conspiracy and rape.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the offences were committed on Jan. 17 at No. 4, Wahab Larinde St., Oshodi, Lagos.

Pep Guardiola is considering staying at Manchester City for five years, according to reports in England.

The City manager began a three-year contract at the start of the season but his side have not yet replicated the success he had at previous clubs Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Hamas warns Donald Trump against moving embassy to Jerusalem


Hamas spokesman Osama Hamdan has warned US President Donald Trump not to add “more oil on the fire” by moving the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Hamdan’s comments came in response to promises made by Trump and his administration to make the move – a decision that would effectively recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The eastern sector of Jerusalem was occupied in 1967 in an act that was not recognised by any other country in the world.

Trump’s press secretary said last week that the new administration was in “the beginning stages” of discussing a possible relocation.

Borno State | Boko Haram attack village, abduct 7 women, kill 3 residents


Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members on Monday abducted about seven women and killed three other persons when they attacked a village in the southern part of Borno State, witnesses and the police have said.

The incident took place in Ndagu Village of Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Ndagu village is located near Alagarno, a place that was once known as spiritual headquarters of Boko Haram and was said to have been recently liberated by troops of the Nigeria military.
