Oscars apologize for Amy Adams, Tom Hanks website flub


Amy Adams and Tom Hanks weren’t nominated for Oscars Tuesday morning — but the awards show’s official website led people to believe otherwise when they mistakenly posted a nominees list that included the two actors in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories.

The live-stream announcement said Ruth Negga was nominated in the Best Actress category for her performance in Loving, but, according to screengrabs, the website replaced her name with Adams, who starred in Best Picture nominee Arrival. The website also added Hanks to the Best Actor category for his role in Sully. Both Adams and Hanks have since been removed from the official list.

The five staff and three students of the Tulip International School, located in the Isheri area of Ogun State, who were abducted from their school premises by gunmen have been released. They were released on Tuesday evening after spending 11 days in captivity.

One of the parents told Channels Television that ransom worth millions was paid through a negotiator and the gunmen gave the assurance that the victims would be released.

President Trump moved assertively on Tuesday to further dismantle his predecessor’s policies as he revived the Keystone XL pipeline that stirred years of debate over the balance between the nation’s energy needs and efforts to stem climate change.

Former President Barack Obama rejected the proposed 1,179-mile pipeline in 2015, arguing that it would undercut American leadership in curbing the reliance on carbon energy. Mr. Trump signed a document clearing the way to government approval of the pipeline as well as for the Dakota Access pipeline in North Dakota.

President Muhammadu Buhari has written the Senate to reconsider and confirm Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Senate President Bukola Saraki read Mr. Buhari’s letter notifying the lawmakers of the re-nomination on Tuesday, just after the Senate returned from an executive session.

Joleon Lescott signs for Sunderland until the end of the season


Sunderland have signed former England international Joleon Lescott on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Lescott, 34, a two-time Premier League winner with Manchester City, had been a free agent since departing AEK Athens in November after less than three months at the club.

Nasarawa State | Government begins crackdown on open defecation


The Director of Public Health in the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health, Mr Ibrahim Alhassan, said on Tuesday that the ministry would sanction any resident caught engaging in open defecation.

Alhassan said that the ministry was collaborating with other agencies to enforce the law on open defecation.

He also said that the ministry would be more proactive in enforcing the law in order to promote personnel and environmental hygiene while preventing outbreak of diseases.

RCCG warns pastors and members against Ponzi schemes


The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has warned its Pastors and members against using the church platform to participate in Ponzi schemes.

A memo issued by the General Secretary of the church, Pastor Johnson Odesola, to all Pastors in charge of regions and provinces, threatened disciplinary actions against defaulting members.

According to the memo, the doctrine of the church does not support get rich quick schemes.

A nude painting of impeached South Korean president Park Geun-Hye met a violent end at the country’s parliament Tuesday, reports said, as supporters tore the work — which evokes Edouard Manet’s Olympia off the wall and destroyed it.

The image was part of an exhibition at the National Assembly featuring works by 22 artists lampooning Park and her confidante Choi Soon-Sil, who is at the centre of the corruption scandal that led to Park’s impeachment.

In Manet’s 19th-century original, on display in the Musee d’Orsay in Paris, a naked white woman widely identified as a prostitute stares boldly out at the viewer while a black servant brings her flowers.

A man who broke into a classmate’s home in 2007 and stabbed the teenager and his parents to death in 2007 has killed himself in prison.

Cumberland County Deputy Coroner Jeff Miller said on Monday that 25-year-old Alec Kreider was found hanging in his cell Friday at the state prison in Camp Hill.

The Department of Corrections says staff members tried to revive Kreider after a guard found him unconscious in his cell. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
