A British woman was arrested and is facing jail for extramarital sex after reporting an alleged gang rape on holiday in Dubai.

Zara-Jayne Moisey, 25, told police in the United Arab Emirates she was violently raped by two British men in the city last month.Instead of being treated as a victim, Single Zara who had since split from her husband was reportedly locked up on suspicion of extra-marital sex and later charged with the offence.

Lagos State | Outrage over man murdered at Oshodi market


The buildings and environs of the Methodist Church Nigeria Plaza, Oshodi, opposite the demolished Owonifari market were at a standstill Friday when a young man was clobbered to death.

The victim, the late Cheta Ewi, 24, sold and repaired games and downloads prior to his death.

He was said to be the only son and had no family in Lagos.

The plaza, home to wholesale traders in clothing items, looked more like a ghost town than a beehive of activity which is the usual atmosphere of shops in the ever bustling Oshodi market.

Osun State | NDLEA destroys 30,992kgs of cannabis


Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have destroyed two thousand three hundred and seventeen bags of cannabis weighing 30,992kgs.

Sixty seven bags were also transferred to Osun State Command of the NDLEA as exhibits for further investigation.

The cannabis will also serve as evidence against eleven suspected farmers arrested during operation inside cannabis plantation.

Federal Government says ASUU will suspend strike on Monday


The Federal Government has expressed optimism that the strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) will end by Monday at the latest.

This was made known by Dr. Clement Illo, who is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, while speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

It can be recalled that a meeting ASUU held with the Senate President, the Committee on Labour and the Committee on Education, among others ended in deadlock on Wednesday.

African giant rats trained to detect tuberculosis in humans


Africa’s giant rats have been trained to sniff out landmines and detect tuberculosis in humans, and soon they could turn their superior noses to protecting other animals by finding illegal wildlife trophies being smuggled out of African ports.

Kirsty Brebner, whose organisation Endangered Wildlife Trust had the idea of putting rats to work on the illegal wildlife trade, disclosed this on Friday in Nairobi.

She said the U.S. financed project was still in its early stages, but the rats that would be trained to scuttle over shipping containers in search of pangolin scales were only born in October.

Enugu State | Man killed himself after chopping wife to death


The Enugu State Police Command on Friday commenced investigations to unravel why one Francis Uzo, 41, had to kill himself after hacking his wife to death in Emene, near Enugu.

The command’s spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement in Enugu that the investigations were being handled by the homicide section of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (CIID) of the command.

She pleaded guilty on Wednesday to aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Vera met the 13-year-old boy who was a student in her 8th grade English class during summer school last summer, according to court documents.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has once more, put on hold all actions concerning elections into federal and state Assembly in Rivers State.

The electoral umpire said it awaits the receipt of a comprehensive report from its Field Officials and Monitors on the state of security in the affected constituencies.

INEC said the suspension does not affect areas where the exercise has been done and the results declared by the Returning Officers.

Borno State | Six Killed, One Arrested In Suicide Attack


Six persons have been killed in suicide  bomb attacks on Friday morning, in a failed attempt to attack the Federal High Court in Jidari Polo area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

A spokesman for the police, Mr. Victor Isuku said the bombers, two females and one male, had apparently planned to inflict death on the police and other security agents guarding the court.

Another person suspected to be a member of the Boko Haram sect and two members of a vigilante group were also killed in the attack.

President Buhari inaugurates boards of NNPC, two others


President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, inaugurated the governing boards of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and two other parastatals of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

Other parastatals, whose board was also sworn in, are the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board and the Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority. All the boards have the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, as their chairman.

Presidency says Buhari didn’t donate $500m to Clinton campaign


The Federal Government on Friday dismissed as untrue claims that President Muhammadu Buhari donated $500m to Hillary Clinton campaign in the just-concluded US election.

A video, purportedly circulated by a US non-governmental group, the American Black Group for Democracy, had last week alleged that Nigeria donated $500m (about N150bn) to Clinton’s failed bid for the White House.

It claimed that the money was “pledged to the US Secretary of State, Sen John Kerry, and US Ambassador in Abuja”; adding that “the donation may create a huge misunderstanding between Nigeria and the incoming Trump’s US government.”

United States reacts to Police/Shi'ite clash in Nigeria


The United States has expressed deep concerns over the latest clash between the Police and Shi’ite members in Kano, describing the security agency’s response to the procession as “disproportionate.”

It, therefore, called for calm and restraint on all sides, a reduction of tension and greater communication between Shi’ite members and government authorities.

A statement from the US embassy’s Information Office on Friday in Abuja said the Shi’ite group, like other religious communities, had the right to assemble, peacefully express their religious beliefs, and mark their celebrations.

A Tanzanian man who spoke to BBC, has said that a hospital has been unable to treat him because he is too tall – Baraka Elias, who is 7ft 4in (2.20m), said he needed hip replacement surgery after hurting himself in a fall.

However, doctors at a hospital, told him that his height meant he would not fit properly in a hospital bed, Mr Elias said.
