Rivers State | Police allegedly open fire on PDP supporters on peaceful procession for democracy


There was confusion in Rivers as members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state were allegedly barricaded and shot at during a ‘thank you’ visit the Rivers house of assembly by the members.

Super Eagles players donate over N1million to Echiejile, Akpeyi’s weddings


Players of the Super Eagles showed their solidarity with two of their own, as they donated over N1million to the upcoming weddings of Elderson Echiejile and Daniel Akpeyi. 

The players, who received N350, 000 each as their camp allowance following the 3-1 win over Algeria, but instead of going home with the entire sum, agreed to donate N50,000 each to Echiejile and Akpeyi, as their own contribution to the players’ weddings next month.

Stranded Golden Eaglet Players Calls Home for Money After NFF Pays Them 5,000 Naira Each


Several Nigeria Golden Eaglets players were stranded in Abuja on return from the Suwon International Tournament in South Korea after they were each paid five thousand Naira as transport fare back to their bases.
“Some of the players were stranded and had to send home for more money to add to the 5,000 Naira paid each of them before they could return home,” a source informed.

A 60-year-old man who is an indigene of Amaekpu Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area in Abia state was paraded unclad by youths and women of the community as punishment for raping and killing a woman of the same community.

According to a report by Abia Facts, it was gathered that the man mocked the lady for being a virgin while raping her in the farm, before he allegedly killed her. He then informed the lady's friend to tell the family where they can find the body, it was the lady that raised the alarm. 

President Buhari inaugurates boards of NNPC, two others


President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, inaugurated the governing boards of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and two other parastatals of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

Other parastatals, whose board was also sworn in, are the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board and the Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority. All the boards have the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, as their chairman.

In the quest for the coolest selfie, more people have died in India in the past two years than the total number of selfie-related deaths in the rest of the world, according to the study titled “Me, Myself and My Killfie: Characterizing and Preventing Selfie Deaths”.

Presidency says Buhari didn’t donate $500m to Clinton campaign


The Federal Government on Friday dismissed as untrue claims that President Muhammadu Buhari donated $500m to Hillary Clinton campaign in the just-concluded US election.

A video, purportedly circulated by a US non-governmental group, the American Black Group for Democracy, had last week alleged that Nigeria donated $500m (about N150bn) to Clinton’s failed bid for the White House.

It claimed that the money was “pledged to the US Secretary of State, Sen John Kerry, and US Ambassador in Abuja”; adding that “the donation may create a huge misunderstanding between Nigeria and the incoming Trump’s US government.”

United States reacts to Police/Shi'ite clash in Nigeria


The United States has expressed deep concerns over the latest clash between the Police and Shi’ite members in Kano, describing the security agency’s response to the procession as “disproportionate.”

It, therefore, called for calm and restraint on all sides, a reduction of tension and greater communication between Shi’ite members and government authorities.

A statement from the US embassy’s Information Office on Friday in Abuja said the Shi’ite group, like other religious communities, had the right to assemble, peacefully express their religious beliefs, and mark their celebrations.

However, doctors at a hospital, told him that his height meant he would not fit properly in a hospital bed, Mr Elias said.

The daughter of Bobbi Brown and the late Whitney Houston died in July 2015 at age 22 after being in a coma for months. She was found face down and unconscious in a bathtub in a Georgia home she shared with Gordon, who she often called her “husband” and who her mother had helped raise.

He denied any wrongdoing and was never charged with a crime. Her estate later filed a $50 million wrongful death civil lawsuit against him.

This MMM Nigeria, a community of mutual aid and donation exchange on Thursday donated about N2.5 Million to hospital patients in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital who are suffering from deadly ailments and without hope to settle their hospital bills.

According to one of the members, Eleyele Benjamin said MMM’s “Save a life” Charity programme is part of motive the group was founded to assist those who are in need contrary to popular saying that it’s founded to defraud prospective members of the public.

Reps to meet President Buhari over rising wave of insecurity


Worried by the continuous killings across the country, the House of Representatives Thursday mandated the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and other principal officers to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari and the security chiefs over the rising wave of insecurity

The proposed meeting with Buhari is for the purpose of getting him to act urgently on the trend of herdsmen attacks, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other security challenges.

The House also said a conference on security involving all security agencies should be convened to proffer solution to the problem and called for a Declaration of Emergency in Southern Kaduna senatorial district by the Federal and Kaduna State governments.

FG haven't paid Jonathan, Obasanjo, IBB their 10-month salaries and allowances


Former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo, General Ibrahim Babangida, Alhaji Shehu Shagari have not been paid their salaries and allowances since January this year, it was disclosed on Thursday.

EFCC disregard Fayose’s application challenging seizure of his properties


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday abstained from a Federal High Court in Abuja where it was expected to show up to respond to an application by Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, who is challenging the seizure of his landed assets by the commission.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba expressed reservation over the absence of any lawyer representing the anti-graft agency and the failure of the commission to file any response to Fayose’s application despite being aware that Thursday had been scheduled for the hearing.

The judge had on July 20, 2016, granted an ex-parte order in favour of the EFCC for the interim forfeiture of some landed assets in Lagos and Abuja linked to Fayose.

'You can’t intimidate me' - Judge slams Ecobank


Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday dismissed an application by Ecobank Nigeria Limited asking him to disqualify himself from a suit filed against the bank by Honeywell Flour Mills Plc.

The judge, who stressed that no one could intimidate him, described Ecobank’s application as frivolous and dismissed it.

The bank had, in a letter to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, alleged that Justice Idris had been biased against it and sought the transfer of the case to another judge.

Police IG says Ondo election will be violence-free


The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has expressed assurance that the November 26, governorship election in Ondo State will be free of violence.

He said officers and men of the Nigeria police Force would be on ground to tackle any act of violence.

Idris said the police were committed and ready to ensure that peace reign in all parts of the state before, during and after the election.
