Fashola reveals Lagos-Ibadan Road will be completed soon


Expansion and rehabilitation work on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will be completed soon, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said.

Fashola, who reviewed his first year in office in Lagos at the weekend, said the long bridge at the Lagos-Ogun boundary on the road had to be shut because construction work was ongoing underneath it.
“Roads are depreciating assets that need constant maintenance and regulated usage,” he said, adding that the issue of overloaded trucks was being addressed.

Police IG says Nigeria will enjoy its best Christmas period ever


The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has said the nation will enjoy its best Christmas period ever, giving the drop in crime rate.

Idris stated this at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, after returning from Indonesia, where he attended the 85th Annual Conference of International Police (Interpol).

He said: “From all indications, we are having the best Christmas period this year because the crime rate seems to be under control.”

Governor Fayose pays N200 million to homeowners


Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has distributed cheques worth N200million to the second batch of landlords whose properties are to give way to the construction of the 1.2km Fajuyi/Ojumose flyover.

The beneficiaries were landlords in Okesa, Ado-Ekiti many of whom were happy to receive their cheques.

Massive earthquake hit New Zealand


An earthquake measured between 6.6 and 7.2 has struck New Zealand. Local reports by New Zealand Herald said the quake struck 20km south-east of Hanmer Springs, quoting Geonet. Geonet described the quake, felt through much of the country, as “very large”.

The quake struck at 12.02am Monday and is officially rated as “severe”. Many people from as far afield as Wellington to Dunedin felt the quake. In Wellington, sirens can be heard and people are on the street crying. New Zealand Civil Defence just tweeted that it is “assessing [the] situation with assistance of scientific advisors and civil defence groups”.

Japan flogged Falconets 6-0 in FIFA U-20 World Cup


The Nigeria U-20 Women’s team, the Falconets, were whitewashed 6-0 by Japan in their opening game of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Sunday in Papua New Guinea.’

Gov Fayose reveals plans by Aso Rock cabals to plot against Justice Onnoghen



Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has raised the alarm over a plot by a cabal within the presidency to prevent Justice Walter Nkanu Onnoghen from becoming the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Fayose alleged that the appointment of Justice Onnoghen as Acting CJN was “either a grand plot to deprive him of his well-deserved appointment as CJN because he is from the South-South region or those cabals in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa want to hold him in the jugular, using his confirmation as substantive CJN to get him to assist them to pervert justice.” The governor, who said the inordinate power game of the Aso Rock cabal was apparent in the unnecessary delay in announcing Onnoghen as substantive CJN, adding that the present arrangement was a breach of the succession plan in the apex judiciary.

NOTICE: Abuja flights to be diverted for rehabilitation of runway


The Federal Government is to rehabilitate Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport runway, Abuja, with about N1 billion.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a reliable source from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, disclosed this to aviation correspondents in Lagos on Sunday.

The runway had been in bad state due to overuse and had been a source of concern to Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers.
