Samsung sends fireproof boxes for safe return of Galaxy Note 7 (Watch Video)


Samsung Electronics said Wednesday it is sending fire-resistant packages to its customers in the U.S. as a precaution against possible fires or explosions from Galaxy Note 7s they return to retailers.

Samsung is offering prepaid shipping boxes as an option for U.S. consumers who purchased the phones on its website, Samsung.com. It said consumers who purchased their Note 7 phones from mobile carriers should visit the carriers' websites for recall instructions.

On Tuesday, Samsung said it was discontinuing the Note 7 phones just two months after their launch, after two recalls and many reports of fires. Samsung must now deal with receiving back more than 1.5 million Galaxy Note 7 phones, both the original ones and those issued as replacements. Most were sold in the U.S. and South Korea.

Republicans who served top roles in President George W. Bush's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) are endorsing Hillary Clinton for president.

The 13 former officials backed the Democrat in an open letter Wednesday, led by former EPA head Christine Todd Whitman and former Transportation Secretary Mary Peters.
"We believe in effective government, a society of hope and optimism balanced with realism, and a politics of civility and honesty. None of these values are present in Donald Trump's campaign," the ex-officials wrote.

The Executive Secretary of the Obudu Urban Development Authority (BUDA), Canice Atsu has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen. According to CrossRiverWatch, the gunmen reportedly trailed Atsu all the way from Ogoja where he went for a function on Saturday, October 8th, and abducted him about 5 minutes after he arrived his home located along Ranch road in Obudu.

25-year-old Man bags two months sentence for Stealing Blocks


A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old labourer, Elisha Julius, to two months imprisonment for stealing blocks worth N60,000.

Julius, a resident of Kado Bimko Village, Abuja, was   convicted after he pleaded guilty for theft and begged for leniency.

The Area Court judge, Sadiq Abubakar, gave the convict an option to pay N6, 000 as fine, and warned him to desist from crime after his sentence.

Panic among Villagers in Okpo Ita, Ibeno local government area of the state, after they discovered the carcass of a whale which was found on a beach off the Atlantic Ocean as a handful of tourists have been attracted to the scene since the news broke out.

According to an eyewitness, Edem Eniang, a biodiversity conservationist from the University of Uyo.

Some of the villagers had started cutting off the body parts for meat before Mr. Eniang and his team of researchers, and the local authorities got to the scene, several days after it was found.

Mr. Eniang said the carcass is about 16 metres in length.

A polygamous man has come under fire from residents for failing to look after his 10 wives and forcing them to live in a two roomed house. The residents have complained after the man's children spend most of their days begging for food as they do not attend any school.

According to H-metro, the man identified as Fortunate Nyakudya of Johanne Marange stays with 10 wives at number 4660-58th crescent in Glen View 3, Zimbabwe including three under aged teenagers. Nyakudya is sharing a four-roomed house with his polygamous church mate, Luke Muvambwi, who has two wives including a teenager who is currently pregnant. 

President Buhari to make a 3-day visit to Germany


President Muhammadu Buhari is set to begin an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany from tomorrow, Thursday, 13th October. 

The said visit will end on Sunday, 16th October. 

Vanguard reports that In Berlin, President Buhari, will confer with Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on issues of shared interests between Nigeria and Germany, including further cooperation on security, the humanitarian situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and rehabilitation of the North-East, as well as trade and economic relations between both countries.

Thereafter, the President, who will be accompanied by Governors Kashim Shettima of Borno State and Rochas Okorocha of Imo and representatives of the National Assembly, will meet with Federal President Joachim Gauck.

The residents of Konshisha area of the Aliade-Awajir Road in Benue State, were in pandemonium after a police inspector allegedly shot dead a motorcycle (Okada) rider, identified as Gabriel Saa.

According to Punch Metro, the victim was shot dead after interfering in a discussion between the police inspector and another motorcycle rider on the road.

The inspector was allegedly demanding a N50 bribe from the motorcycle rider when the victim interjected, leading to a heated argument.

Federal Government Has Released N3.9trn Of 2016 Budget – Min for Finance


The Minister for Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has said that at the end of September, N3.9tn out of the N6.1tn budgeted for the year has been released.

The Director Special Projects in the ministry, who represented the minister, Mr. Mohammed Dikwa, a stakeholders’ forum on reducing the cost of governance in Abuja on Tuesday said only 18 percent of the releases was for capital expenses against 82 percent for recurrent expenditure.

In a paper, “Public Sector Financial Management Reforms as a Strategy for Cutting Cost of Governance in Nigeria”, Adeosun said that the releases to the productive sectors of the economy remained the highest in recent times.
