Abubakar Ibrahim Wins 2016 Nigeria Prize For Literature Worth N48m

'A Season of Crimson Blossoms' by Abubakar Adam Ibrahim has won the 2016 NLNG prize for Literature as announced by Professor Banjo, head of the judges for the NLNG Nig Literature prize.

Professor Banjo described Abubakar’s first novel, “as skillful and sympathetic narrative." Adam who is Daily Trust's Art editor won the Prize beating, Elnathan John's 'Born on a Tuesday' and past winner Chika Unigwe's ' Night Dancer'.

The Niger State Government said it would discontinue the payment of the West African Senior School Examination Certificate Examination and National Examination Council fees for its students in secondary schools in the state.

The state governor, Sani Bello, disclosed this on Tuesday when he visited the Justice Legbo Kutigi Secondary School to inspect the ongoing renovation of the school in Lavun Local Government Area of the state.

Bello said the government could not continue to pay N800m every year for students only for just five per cent of them to pass the examinations.

The four pupils, Abu, Emmanuel Okonkwo, Jeremiah Ruth, Isaac Adebisi, Vice Principal, Junior School, AO Oyesola and English teacher, Lukman Oyerinde, who were abducted last Thursday at the Lagos State Model College, Igbonla in Epe have been released by the kidnappers around 10:30pm, Tuesday night.

The kidnappers initially demanded N120 million for the release of the abducted people but then reduced it to N3.5m on Sunday.
