A former governor of Anambra State has disclosed that the failed 1966 coup was never an Igbo coup and was meant to install Chief Obafemi Awolowo as the Prime Minister of Nigeria. 

Speaking at the second day of the Igbo-Israeli Economic Summit which ended in Enugu on Thursday, former governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, disclosed that the failed Major Nzeogwu-led coup of 1966 was never an Igbo coup, stressing that it was meant to install Chief Obafemi Awolowo as the Prime Minister of Nigeria.

Buhari to EFCC: 'If my children are corrupt, please probe them'


The war against corruption may gather more steam soon, going by President Muhammadu Buhari’s latest pronouncement.

The President has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-graft agencies to probe even his own children or members of his family implicated in corrupt practices.

He said he would not forgive the anti-graft agency if it fails to pobe any allegation of corruption against his children and family members.

Lagos State | Kidnappers of students, teachers demand ransom


The kidnappers that invaded Lagos State Model College, Igbonla in Epe Thursday and went away with four students, a teacher and a vice principal ,are now demanding a ransom for their release.

It was learnt yesterday that the kidnappers contacted families of three of their hostages early yesterday to make the ransom demand.

Edo State | NDLEA Impounds Drugs Worth N10.7b, Arrests Seven Suspects


The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said it has confiscated worth over N10.7 billion in Benin.

The State Commander of the Agency, Mr Buba Wakawa, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Benin, that seven suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure.

Wakawa, who gave a rundown of the command’s achievements during the third quarter of 2016, said the seven suspects were arrested with 34.2 Kilogrammes of Methamphetamine.

Borno State | Army Arrest 12 Fleeing Boko Haram Suspects


The Nigerian Army yesterday said troops arrested no fewer than 12 fleeing suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Thursday.

The acting Director, Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

According to Mr. Usman, a colonel, all the arrested suspects had been handed over to Joint Investigation Committee for further action.

Jonathan’s ex-aide loses bid to nullify guilty plea over Money laundering


A former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Waripamo Dudafa, on Friday lost his bid to nullify the guilty plea by four companies linked to Jonathan’s wife, Patience.

Justice Babs Kuewumi dismissed the application because it was unmeritorious.

The companies, on September 15, pleaded guilty to laundering $15,591,700 (about N5 billion) when they were arraigned.

Germany pledges 47.6million Euros support to Nigeria


The German government has said that it has earmarked €47.6 million to support Nigeria in the 2016 technical cooperation, programmes and special project initiatives.

According to a statement on Thursday the 6th of October from the Ministry of Budget and National Planning in Abuja, the news of Germany’s support for Nigeria was announced by Mrs. Renate Von Boddien, the leader of the German delegation, at a meeting of Nigeria- Germany consultations on development cooperation.

The statement which was signed by the Ministry’s Director of Information, Adedeji Ajibade, reported Boddien as saying that the decision by the German government to provide support to Nigeria was designed to tackle the root causes of displacement.

Chief Eric Umeofia, the CEO of Erisco Foods Limited, addressing members of the press on Wednesday, revealed plans to shut down the tomato paste processing business due to unfavorable operating challenges.

Ogun State | Police Deploy 5,000 officers for LG/LCDA polls


Ogun Police Command on Thursday said more than 5,000 security personnel would be deployed during elections into the 20 local government and 37 local council development areas on Saturday.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu, disclosed this in Abeokuta at a stakeholders’ meeting organised ahead of the Oct. 8 council polls.

Ilyasu warned that the police would ‘’deal decisively’’ with anyone who conducted him or herself in a manner capable of disrupting the election process.
