PDP, Ize-iyamu reject Governorship Election Results #EdoDecides


The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has rejected the results of the Edo governorship election held on Wednesday, ahead of the announcement of the outcome.

The party had warned INEC that it would not accept any result different from what was announced at the various polling units in the state.

The PDP rejected the results in a press conference addressed by its Chairman in the state, Mr Dan Orbih, on Thursday in Benin.

Nigeria already late with preparations for Tokyo 2020 Olympics – Galadima


Former Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), and current Chairman of the Kano State Sport Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, has averred that Nigeria’s preparations for the 2020 Olympics is already coming late.

He posited that the performance of Nigeria at the just-concluded Rio Olympics was below expectation, noting that it was occasioned by late or no adequate preparations and late release of funds.

UNICEF says 65,000 people living in famine-like conditions in Borno


UNICEF has revised its humanitarian appeal for Nigeria from US$ 55 million to US$ 115 million to assist an additional 750,000 people who can now be reached across conflict-affected areas in Nigeria’s Northeast.

In a statement made available to journalists in Maiduguri, UNICEF stated that as new areas open up to humanitarian assistance, the true scale of the Boko Haram-related crisis and its impact on children is being revealed.

Anambra State | Suspected Fulani herdsmen kidnap Catholic priest, shoots two others; demand N2.5m ransom


The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Anambra State, on Wednesday, disclosed that some suspected Fulani herdsmen have abducted the rector of Tansi Major Seminary, Rev. Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Dim.

Speaking with reporters at the Nnewi Catholic Diocese Media House, the Communication Director of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Hyginus Aghaulor stated that the herdsmen were armed with dangerous weapons including guns, and inflicted serious injuries on two other priests Rev. Frs. Jude Chukwuneke and Jude Ezeokana, during the attack.

Russian President hails Israel’s Shimon Peres for ‘courage and patriotism’

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole on Wednesday morning at the cattle market, Maiduguri, Borno State, with assistance of Civilian JTF, arrested 3 suspected members of terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Turkey | 32,000 suspects arrested in coup probe


Turkish courts have placed 32,000 suspects under arrest ahead of a trial on charges of links to a group run by US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen who is blamed for the July 15 coup, the justice minister said Wednesday.

Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag told NTV television that 70,000 people had been investigated after the coup and of them 32,000 remanded in custody.
“This process is continuing,” he said. The numbers of those arrested marks an increase of more than 10,000 from those previously given by the government.

Midas, whose contemporaries are such deejays as DJ Jimmy Jatt and Humility, joined Silverbird’s Rhythm FM in 1998 as a pioneer and regular DJ host and ended up spending most of his career there.

MTN debunks Illegal Transfer of $14bn From Nigeria Allegations


South African telecoms giant, MTN, on Wednesday denied the allegation that it illegally repatriated $13.92billion from Nigeria, saying the claim was without merit, Dailypost reports.
“The allegations made against MTN are completely unfounded and without any merit,” MTN Nigeria Chief Executive Ferdi Moolman, said in a statement in Johannesburg.
Nigeria’s Senate agreed on Tuesday to investigate the allegation that MTN, Africa’s biggest telecoms company illegally transferred money out of Nigeria.
