On Monday, 27th day of June, 2016 the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja (Per Hon. Justice O. E. Abang) nullified the nomination of Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for the 2015 Gubernatorial Election of Abia State and also his subsequent election as Governor of Abia State. 
The Court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue a Certificate of Return to Dr. Sampson Uchechukwu Ogah, who scored the second highest number of votes in the primaries that produced Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu. 

Senate passes Bill to protect Persons with Disabilities


The Senate yesterday passed a bill which prohibits any form of discrimination against persons with disabilities. Although the bill was passed in the 6th and 7th Assembly, it was not signed into law for one reason or the other, and the Senate however hopes there will be a change in status quo this time.

According to Senate President Bukola Saraki, the "Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill (2016) (SB 22)" is a highly significant bill that seeks to curb the abuse in all forms of Nigerians with disabilities. Most importantly, it seeks to promote the respect of the rights of all Nigerians with disabilities.

Emeka Okudo shared these photos via Facebook. According to him, this Python was killed in Oron, Akwa Ibom. It was then cut into pieces and cooked by some people in the area.

Ogun State Governor fire commissioner for unacceptable behaviour


Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, today terminated the appointment of the Commissioner IV in the State Civil Service Commission, Ebenezer Oluwole Olubena for misconduct. A statement from the secretary to the state government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, states that Olubena has been ordered to immediately hand over all government property and documents in his possession to the Permanent Secretary at the Commission immediately. The act of misconduct by the dismissed commissioner was however not stated.

Ground Break: Nigerian Surgeon Discovers Cure for Malaria


The adult human facial sebum (oil) contains potent mosquito repellent properties, says a Nigerian facial surgeon, Dr. Bayo Aluko-Olokun.

Aluko-Olokun, a facial surgeon at the Department of Facial Surgery, National Hospital, Abuja, made this known yesterday in Abuja.

The expert said he made the discovery after conducting studies at the National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria, Lagos, in 2015, by testing the reaction of life mosquitoes to sebum-coated paper.

According to him, he applied the sebum to a piece of paper and placed it beside another with no substance applied in a transparent 70ml glass bottle.

Former Burundian government minister and spokeswoman, Hafsa Mossi, was assassinated in the country's capital, Bujumbura today July 13th. Burundian police spokesperson, Pierre Nkurikiye, who confirmed the incident on twitter said
“Hon. Mossi assassinated 10.30 in Gihosha in the east of Bujumbura by two criminals in a vehicle,”

Federal High Court Orders NERC To Reverse Increase In Electricity Tariff


The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has annulled the increment in electricity tariff recently announced by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Justice Mohammed Idris who delivered judgment in a suit filed by a Lagos based lawyer, Mr. Toluwani Adebiyi, challenging the increment, described NERC’s action as irrational, irregular and illegal.

The court while relying on Sections 31, 32 and 76 of the Electricity Power Sector Reform Act(EPSRA) 2005, in deciding the substantive suit held that, “NERC acted outside the powers conferred on it by the Act and failed to follow the prescribed procedure.

VP Osinbajo reveals Buhari Has Adopted 2 Recommendations from Jonathan's Confab Report
