DisCos advocates for 100% Increase in Electricity Tariff


Power firms are pushing for a fresh 100 percent increase in electricity tariff, the second in six months.

The electricity distribution companies (DisCos) raised tariff by over 45 percent in February.

The DisCos had written to the regulatory authority, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) demanding hike in tariff from the current average of N24 per kilowatt (for residential consumers) to N50 per kilowatt.

However, the Director General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr Remi Ogunmefun said that his association had opposed that move in writing to the NERC.

The NERC announced the 45 percent hike in electricity tariff with effect from February 1, 2016, and said the increase would enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Dasuki says Federal Government Abusing Legal Processes just to Nail me


Immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA) Colonel Mohammed, Sambo Dasuki (rtd) has alleged before an Abuja High Court that the federal government planned to ambush him at all cost in the three criminal charges against him in three different high courts in Abuja.

Dasuki said that the federal government in the quest to nail him has engaged in gross abuse of court and legal process by instituting various criminal charges against him on just one issue.

In a motion he filed to challenge the alleged abuse of court process by government, Dasuki said that it was wrong in law and even against natural justice for the government to arraign him before two different High Courts of the Federal Capital Territory on the same sections of the law and on the same alleged arms fund.

NSEMA reveals that over 250 persons displaced following farmers, herdsmen clash in Niger


The Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, has stated that over 250 people were displaced following a clash between Fulani herdsmen and Gbagyi farmers in state.

Four persons reportedly died with properties destroyed in the clash that happened in Bara-kuta, Bosso Local Government Area on Friday.

Director General of NSEMA, Malam Ahmed Inga, disclosed this in Minna, the state capital, on Tuesday.

Pandemonium in House of Reps over immunity for Senate President, Speaker


The planned inclusion of the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives among public officers to enjoy immunity on Tuesday threw the Lower Chamber into a rowdy session.

Noting that only the President, Vice President, Governors and their deputies presently enjoy immunity, the Minority leader of the House of Reps, Leo Ogor called for the amendment of Section 308.

He advocated the inclusion of the leaders of the National Assembly.

Sokoto State gets three additional Perm Secs and new Head of Service



The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has approved the appointment of Dr. Buhari Bello Kware as the new Head of the state’s Civil Service.

A statement issued in Sokoto on Tuesday by the Governor’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, said the appointment followed the retirement of the immediate past Head of Service, Alhaji Bature Shinkafi, who retired from service after reaching the mandatory 35 years in service.

It said the new appointee was born on 1st June 1960 in Kware LGA of Sokoto State. He graduated from Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto with a Bachelor’s Degree, Masters Degree and PhD in History.

Ali Modu Sheriff says he has no godfather in politics


Embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has declared that he has no godfather in politics, even as he called on all party loyalists across the country to stop the smear campaigns, and address issues in their collective quest to find a lasting solution to the crisis that has beset the party.

He spoke in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, which reads; “This call becomes necessary in the face of recent reports planted in some sections of the media, alluding that Senator Buruji Kashamu is a godfather to National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

President Buhari will not help anybody rig election - Edo APC reveals


The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State has told the people of the state that President Muhammadu Buhari does not believe in election rigging and will therefore not help anyone perpetrate election fraud no matter his stake in the electoral contest.

State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Godwin Erhahon said leaders of the APC in the state should, therefore, work hard if they truly desire to come out victorious in the governorship election.

This comes on the heels of a call by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leadership at a rally in Auchi that the President should allow level playing field for all parties in the election.

AEPB reveals Why FCTA sealed National Hospital, Abuja


Sequel to the order by an FCT Chief Magistrate Court over unpaid debts for services rendered, the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB, on Tuesday sealed off the National Hospital, Abuja.

Chairman, Ministerial Task Team on the recovery of N9 billion owed the AEPB, Baba Shehu Lawan made this disclosure after executing the order on Tuesday.

The Chairman said that the court had earlier issued three different summons to the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital to appear before it, which he failed to honour.

Police debunk media reports, say only 22 persons were killed in Benue attack


Following the alleged killing of 81 persons in Benue State by suspected Fulani herdsmen, the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has appealed to Nigerians to remain calm and report any suspicious persons or objects to the Police.

This is coming after a group of suspected armed herdsmen on Sunday killed six persons in the Nenzev ward in Logo Local Government Area, LGA, of the state at about mid-day.

According to media reports, the latest killings increased the number of deaths from herdsmen attack to 81 in the last two weeks, but the police on Tuesday dismissed the claim, stating that the number of deaths were exaggerated.

This was made known in a press release signed by the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Moses Joel Yamu,

Court Sentence two men to 14 years in Prison for conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretense


The EFCC on Monday secured the conviction of Pastor Emmanuel Markus Anga and Atin Victor Generous before Justice Abubakar Jauro of Gombe State High Court, on two count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretense. Anga and Generous are alleged to have in November 2013, deceived David Madison, into believing that they were employees of foreign exchange business, Gora Commanding Resources, which they claimed belonged to Philemon Gora (who is still at large).

Footballer Adam Johnson has lost his appeal for child sex conviction - Sister reveals

In Kano: Government Trains 72 Youths On Automobile Engineering


The Kano State Government has sponsored 72 youths to be trained in various fields of automobile engineering as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and youth restiveness in the state.

The youths are undergoing the training at the Peugeot Automobile Nigeria learning centre in Kaduna.

Speaking during a visit to assess their level of performance, the Kano State Governor, Mr Abdullahi Ganduje, said the state government will begin the training of female indigenes as auto mechanics in order to make the state produce the highest number of female automobile engineers in the country.

Just In: At least twelve persons confirm dead as trains collides in Italy


Two Italian commuter trains collided Tuesday in the southern region of Puglia, killing a dozen people, firefighters said.

Dozens of others were injured when the two trains, each with four cars, collided head-on near the town of Andria on a line with just a single track, according to news agency ANSA and Sky TG24.

A still photo of the crash showed cars crumpled together and forced off the tracks at sharp angles. News reports said rescue workers were pulling victims from the rubble, including a small child who was alive. Video images showed ambulances responding to the scene with other rescue workers.

VP Osinbajo to lead delegates to AU summit in Kigali


Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, says Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 27th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) from Saturday to July 18, in Kigali, Rwanda.

Onyeama stated this on Monday at a pre-AU session news briefing in Abuja.

He said that the occasion would afford Nigeria the opportunity to showcase the successes recorded by the current administration.

The minister said that at the summit would also provide an opportunity for critical appraisal of the 20 billion dollar Nigeria-Algeria trans-Saharan gas pipeline project under the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD).

FG, oil workers meeting ends in deadlock, meeting continues on Tuesday


The meeting between the Federal Government and oil workers unions in Abuja on Monday ended in deadlock and would continue on Tuesday.

The unions are the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, (PENGASSAN) and the National Union of Petroleum Natural Gas Workers( NUPENG).

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said the meeting was moved to Tuesday due to the absence of officials of some international and local oil companies(IOC).

Kachikwu said the meetings were collaborative and frank, adding that all the issues they planned to handle were handled and conclusions were reached.
