Six die in a drastic accident along Ajaokuta-Ayangba Road


The Federal Road Safety Commission in Kogi says six persons died on Saturday in an accident on the Ajaokuta-Itobe-Ayangba road in the state.

The state Sector Commander of the commission in Kogi, Ogochukwu Ugboma, stated in a statement that 12 other persons were critically injured in the crash which occurred in the afternoon in a head-on-collision.

He stated that the collision was between a Toyota passenger bus marked BENUE MKD 841 XA and a Volkswagen Golf car marked KOGI LKJ 335 CV.

Borno State Government says they only received N345 million to help IDPs


The Borno Government says it has so far received cash donations of N345 million for the upkeep of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Governor Kashim Shettima stated this while speaking with journalists in Maiduguri on Sunday.

He said the state never received any cash donation from international donors for IDPs in the last four years.
“I want to say that many Nigerians may be shocked to know that a total of N345 million is the overall amount received as cash donation by the state government from May 2011 to date,” he said.

MASSOB Calls for Referendum


The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has renewed its earlier call for a referendum for Biafra separation from Nigeria.

MASSOB, in a press statement issued on Sun­day by its Leader, Uchenna Madu, argued that refer­endum remained the only solution to the various agitations for self determi­nation by different people groups in the country.

The pro- Biafra group advised the President Mu­hammadu Buhari-led Fed­eral Government to better brace up for a referendum as recently done by the Brit­ish government instead of the unnecessary clamping down on agitators.

Kidnapped Babcock Graduate finally released, Two Friends in custody


Babcock University graduate, Justina Anochie, who was kidnapped by gunmen last Sunday, has regained her freedom.

The Ogun State Police Command said it arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnap, adding that the abductors dropped her off in Odogbolu area of the state on Friday when they realized the police were closing in on them.

The police said no ransom was paid for her release. However, a source said money was paid to the kidnappers, adding that she was in good health.

Justina finished her studies at the Babcock University in June, 2016. She was reported to have returned to her private residence in the university community, where some gunmen kidnapped her.

How EFCC Finally arrested Omisore over N1.3 Billion NSA fund


Several months after being declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, was yesterday arrested by the operatives of the commission in Abuja.

The top Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  bigwig was taken into EFCC custody in Abuja for questioning and there were indications last night he might be arraigned in court over the receipt of N1.3 billion by three firms allegedly owned by him from the former National Adviser to the President, Sambo Dasuki.

According to the commission, the money was moved from the ONSA and paid into the accounts of firms linked to a former Defence Minister, Musiliu Obanikoro and his sons, before being transferred to the company linked to Omisore. *Omisore The former deputy governor has since denied any wrongdoing and filed a suit against the EFCC for declaring him wanted while he is in court to challenge the agency for its infringement on his fundamental rights. A spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest of Omisore but did not give details. He only said the former Senator was arrested in his house in Abuja and taken into custody.

Payet says win against Iceland was France´s best performance at Euro 2016


Dimitri Payet feels France's 5-2 quarter-final win over Iceland was their best performance at Euro 2016 so far.

Didier Deschamps' men failed to impress in the group stages, before recording a hard-fought victory over Republic of Ireland in the round of 16.

The tournament hosts were in fine form on Sunday, though, as France comfortably brushed Iceland aside to set up a semi-final showdown against Germany.

President Buhari says he won’t marginalise any part of the country


President Buhari today said his administration will not marginalize any section, tribe or region in the country. He gave the assurance while speaking at the Ramadan dinner hosted in his honor by the Emir of Daura, Farouk Umar Farouk, in Daura, Katsina state. Speaking in Hausa, President Buhari said his government will consider issues objectively and no action will be taken against any section of the country on the basis of prejudice.

Aisha Buhari gift N30m Cash Support To Abducted Chibok Girls’ Parents


The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has presented about N30 million cash support to parents of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls in Borno State.

The wife of the president, represented by Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima’s wife, Hajiya Nana, presented the cash to the parents at a ceremony in Maiduguri, the state capital on Sunday.

According to Mrs. Buhari, the gesture was aimed at assisting the parents with some financial support towards alleviating their sufferings.

She noted that the presentation was in fulfillment of her promise to assist the less privileged and victims of insurgency in the North East.

German Mario Gomez out of Euro 2016



Germany striker Mario Gomez has been ruled out of the rest of Euro 2016 with a torn hamstring.

Gomez - scorer of two goals in France - was replaced after 72 minutes of Germany's quarter-final victory over Italy on Saturday, with a subsequent MRI scan revealing the extent of the injury.

In addition, Bastian Schweinsteiger (knee) and Sami Khedira (thigh) also picked up injuries, casting doubt over their involvement in Thursday's semi-final against France or Iceland.

Mats Hummels conceded the penalties Germany took in their shoot-out win over Italy on Saturday were not typical of the national team.

Kidnapped PDP chieftain rescued by Police in Abia


Police Personnel of the Safer Highway Patrol team under Aba Area Command has successfully rescued a chieftain and former Governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Ukpai Ukairo from kidnappers’ den.

Ukairo who is the southeast legal adviser of the PDP was said to have been heading to Aba after a meeting of the party in Umuahia, the state capital when the armed men numbering five attacked him.

The Nation gathered that his Personal Assistant and driver that were kidnapped alongside the PDP lawyer have also regained their freedom and reunited with their families unhurt and without any payment of ransom.

Uche Ogah reveal why court confirmed him governor of Abia state


Monday Ubani, the legal representative to the Abia state Governor-elect, Uche Ogah, over the weekend, said that his client filed the suit which ousted the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, after it was discovered that Ikpeazu had manipulated details of his tax payments.

Speaking with newsmen in Lagos, Ubani explained the rationale behind the suit and that Ogah will be sworn in despite the fact that the state’s chief judge, Justice Theresa Uzokwe, has gone into hiding.

Ubani gave detailed explanation on the suit, the rationale for the ruling and why INEC was compelled to issue a certificate of return to Uche Ogah.
