Makarfi accuses Sheriff of plotting to hijack PDP for 2019 presidential bid

The Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned that the party’s court-backed National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, cannot be trusted to conduct a convention for the PDP.

At a news conference in Abuja yesterday, spokesman for the Makarfi camp, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said if allowed to conduct the convention, Sheriff would plant his cronies in strategic positions for his selfish end.

Senate to probe Saraki, Melaye over bullet-proof car, certificate forgery

The Senate has asked its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to investigate its President Bukola Saraki for alleged importation of bullet-proof car with fake Customs duty certificate.

It also mandated the committee to probe the allegation of certificate forgery leveled against Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West).

Researchers at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University Research Institute, Lapai in Niger State, say they have discovered crude oil in the Bida River Basin in Niger State.

The institute’s Director, Prof. Nuhu Obaje, stated this at an exposition of raw materials and locally made products held in Lagos Saturday.

Cynthia Osokogu: 4 Years After Court Finally Delivers Verdicts

Justice Olabisi Akinlade of a Lagos state High Court sitting at Igbosere will tomorrow, deliver judgment in the case of four men who were charged with the murder of Cynthia Osokogu. Justice Akinlade had on January 12, 2017, during the adoption of the final written addresses by all the counsel in the case fixed March 23, for judgment on the case. Osokogu was allegedly murdered on July 22, 2012, at Cosmilla Hotel, Lakeview Estate, Festac Town, Lagos, by her Facebook lover.

So sad! 3-siblings electrocuted in Delta

There was pandemonium in Eku, in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State after three children of a woman, identified as Ms Elohor Gabriel, were electrocuted on Saturday, following a power surge in the community.

It was learnt that the children were electrocuted when the covering of the cable connecting power to their apartment burnt, and the live wire came in contact with some burglar-proof bars while the children were playing at the veranda of the house they lived in.

SSS, Police says Nigerian military ignored intelligence before deadly Boko Haram attack

Security operatives have said that Nigerian soldiers based in Magumeri village of Borno State received early warning about a deadly Boko Haram attack in the community last Wednesday.

A number of soldiers and police personnel died in the attack. The army initially said two soldiers were killed, but the Borno government said the figure was “far higher”.

At least two police personnel also died in the attack.

According to reports, many persons have been confirmed dead after three suicide bombers attacked the Gulumba temporary IDP camp which is opposite Muna garage in Borno state at about 3am today. 

NEMA officials are already on ground to rescue the victims of the attack.

The Edo State Police Command has paraded suspected killers of former Etsako east local government area chairman, Hon Suleiman Afegbua,  Pastor Godwin Akpoguenabor and Patient Omo-Osagie a business woman who were recently murdered in the state.

Briefing newsmen yesterday, the state commissioner of Police, Mr Haliru Gwandu confirmed that the former council chairman was killed by Fulani herdsmen who are already in custody and are helping in their investigation.

Senator Dino Melaye who is an ally of Senate President and well known for his controversial stand on national issues as well as a lasting political battle with his former friend and governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, recently alerted Nigerians that there were plans to carry fictitious allegations against him.
