Pius Anyim walks out of house of reps after heated debate with lawmakers

Pius Anyim, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), left the house of representatives abruptly on Friday, following heated arguments with the committee on federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He had honoured the summons of the committee, which is investigating the over $18 billion Centenary City project under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Bala Mohammed, the immediate past minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), was also in the green chamber.

BREAKING: James Onanefe Ibori returns to Nigeria

The former Governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori who was released last month from prison in the United Kingdom (UK) has arrived in Nigeria.

Ibori whose flight landed in Abuja some hours is said to be on his way to his hometown, Oghara in Delta state.

Ibori was released from British prison in December after serving half of his 13-year sentence, taking into account pre-trial detention.

Oyo State | Police arrest one Million Boys leader

A notorious leader of the dreaded cult group, ‘One Miýllion Boys’ that has been terrorising Ibadan lately, Moshood Oladokun, aka Ekugbemi was among the other 166 suspects paraded by the Oyo State Police Command on Friday.

Parading the notorious gang leader, the state Commissioner for Police, Samuel Adegbuyi said he was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command, adding that he was responsible for the spate of violence in places like Beere, Born Photo, Isale-Osi, Mapo, Idi-Aro and other parts of Ibadan metropolis.

On September 15, 2016 around 2pm, two rival cult groups, one led by Ekugbemi from Born Photo and another group led by Alaba aka Ojoweliweli from Foko area clashed during a carnival held at Born Photo. “During the clash, the hoodlums attacked and robbed innocent victims of their valuable properties, shops were broken, properties looted and two men, Kazeem Omoleý and Opaleye Farouk were killed.

38-year-old man arrested for raping 7-year-old boy in his shop in Lagos

A 38-year-old trader, Hafeez Yusuf, who lives in Kareem Oyelade street, Dopemu, Lagos, has been remanded for raping a 7-year-old boy who went to his shop to buy biscuit. Yusuf reportedly lured the little boy into his inner shop and penetrated the boy via his anus. The United States has sent a Navy destroyer to patrol off the coast of Yemen to protect waterways from Houthi militia aligned with Iran, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Friday, amid heightened tension between Washington and Tehran.

The USS Cole arrived in the vicinity of the Bab al-Mandab Strait off southwestern Yemen where it will carry out patrols, including escorting vessels, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

In 2000, the USS Cole was attacked when al Qaeda bombers steered a boat full of explosives into the side of the American warship while it refueled in the Yemini port of Aden, killing 17 U.S. sailors and wounding about three dozen others.

The security operatives who sealed the Abuja office of a cable and satellite broadcaster, CoreTV, early Friday morning were not from the State Security Service, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.

The operatives were from the Mobile Unit of the Police, witnesses said, out to enforce a quit notice arising from a land dispute decided by the Supreme Court.

SSS operatives seal private Nigerian TV, CoreTV

Security operatives believed to be from the State Security Service on Friday broke into the Abuja office of CoreTV, a cable and satellite broadcaster, carting away broadcasting and other related equipment.

Olajide Adediran, the CoreTV managing director, told newsmen the operatives also shut down the station and barricaded the area during the operation around 4:00 a.m. Friday, even though the media house had no history with the secret police.

James Ibori appears in UK court

James Ibori, former governor of Delta state, is currently appearing before a UK court for his confiscation trial.

The trial is presided over by David Tomlinson, a justice at Southwark Crown court.

If found guilty, he might forfeit his assets, worth about 250 million pounds.
