Armed Group attack in Cameroon lives 3 Nigerians, 1 Kenyan dead

An armed group attacked a UN technical monitoring team in Koncha, a village near the Nigeria-Cameroon border on Tuesday, killing five persons, including three Nigerians and a Kenyan.

The deceased were killed in the process of demarcating and delineating the border between both countries in line with the judgement of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Mohamed Chambas, UN envoy for West Africa and the Sahel, has called for “swift action” to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Expert warns against wrong sleeping position in pregnancy

A gynecologist, Dr Nathaniel Adewole, has warned that sleeping on the back side of the body at advanced stage of pregnancy could predispose a baby to brain problem. Adewole, of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, stated this on Wednesday in Abuja that the problem could occur due to the weight of the uterus. He said that such sleeping positioning by the pregnant mother would make the baby to rest against the big vesicles called inferior vena cava, which supplies blood to the heart.

The inferior vena cava is the large vein that carries de-oxygenated blood from the lower half of the body into the right atrium of the heart. According to him, at the early stage of pregnancy, sleeping position constitutes no much problem; a woman can take any sleeping position that is convenient.

Power generation hits 3,528 megawatts from 2,662 megawatts

The Transmission Company of Nigeria says that the nation’s power generation improved slightly to 3,528.90 megawatts on February 1 from 2,662 megawatts on January 22.

This figure was disclosed on the website of the Nigerian Electricity System Operator, a sub-agency of the TCN, in its daily forecast on power generation in Lagos on Wednesday.

It said, “The slight increase in generation is due to slightly increased gas supply to some Generating Companies to boost operations.

“The total output of 3,528.90 megawatts from all the GENCOs on Wednesday has been transferred to the 11 distribution companies across the country.”
