DSS implicates governor in plot against Federal Government


The Department of State Security Services (DSS) yesterday implicated a Southsouth governor in a subversive plot against the Federal Government.

It also accused the governor of allegedly sponsoring those behind demanding the resignation of its Director- General, Mr. Lawan Daura.

The governor was said to be under investigation also for sponsoring violent demonstration.

He told the court, “My wife always does not make love to me until she collects N500.
“This, I am sure, is why she has not conceived after the birth of our only child, who is six-year old now.
“I am tired of paying N500 per round before making love with my wife, please dissolve the union.

Veteran author Buchi Emecheta dies at 72


Renown Nigerian author Buchi Emecheta, 72, is dead.

According to reports, Emecheta died yesterday in London.

The celebrated writer has published over  20 books, including Second-Class Citizen, The Bride Price, The Slave Girl and The Joys of Motherhood.

Imo State | Robbers raid State House of Assembly, steal valuables, documents


Some robbers, believed to be working as a syndicate, have reportedly raided Imo State House of Assembly and carted away cash, valuable documents and electronic equipment.

It was not clear at press time, how the rampaging hoodlums gained entrance into the complex and had all the time to break in and select their desired sensitive documents they stole.

Although no official statement has been issued by the Speaker, Chief Acho Ihim, on the crime, but it was gathered that the robbers broke into the offices of some lawmakers, where they wreaked havoc.

As the fate of investors in the money doubling scheme, MMM hangs in the balance, students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida in Niger state have lost their school fees in the Ponzi scheme.

The deadline for fees payment in the institution ended yesterday, but many students who invested in MMM are unable to meet up.

The students had expected to be paid when the scheme resumed operation last January 14 after about one month break.

Fuel Subsidy fraudsters bags 10 years sentenced


A Lagos High Court in Ikeja has sentenced Walter Wagbatsoma and Adaoha Ugo-Nnadi to 10 years in prison for fuel subsidy fraud.

The judge said the sentence would start to count from January 13, 2016.

Northern youths to OBJ: Stop playing God over Buhari's health like you did with Yar'Adua


The Northern Progressives Youth Initiative has asked former President Olusegun Obasanjo to stop playing God over his recent pronouncement that the South-East region will produce the country’s president in 2019.

The group made the call via a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Mallam Gazali Abdullahi.

A 14-year-old girl broadcast to a social media platform from her Miami area foster home as she hanged herself in the bathroom. The Florida Department of Children and Families offered few details Tuesday about the weekend death-by-suicide of Nakia Venant, whom police found hanging from the door frame in the bathroom.

One of the girl's friends told the Miami Herald she saw some of Venant's two-hour livestream on Sunday and called Miami-Dade police, who responded to her house. 

She then gave them a wrong address in Miami, reported the Miami Herald. When police showed up there, residents gave them the address of Venant's foster home in the suburb of Miami Gardens.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, yesterday, presented 40 exotic vehicles, recovered from some retired directors and their deputies, who worked with the Ministry of Water Resources.

The vehicles, which were handed over to the permanent secretary of the ministry, was recovered by a crack team of the ICPC, led by the Director of Assets Tracing, Mr. Frank Nanakumo.

A pride of lions decided to stop and eat their lunch in the middle of a road - bringing traffic to a standstill. 

The 18 hungry lions had recently killed a buffalo and decided to lay in the middle of the road to devour it at the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The eight students and two staff of the Nigeria Turkish International School, Isheri, Ogun State, who were abducted on January 13, 2017, have regained their freedom. 

They were released about 7.30pm yesterday after ransom was paid. Available information had it that parents parted with between N4million about N10 million each to secure the release of the students and staff.

Transparency International Releases List Of The Least Corrupt Country In Africa (See Countries)


Botswana has been named the least corrupt nation in Africa, ranking at position 35 in the global Corruption Perceptions Index 2016 released by Transparency International. Cape Verde was ranked second lest corrupt nation in Africa after Botswana, standing at position 38 worldwide.

Mauritius and Rwanda come third in the continent, tying at position 50 worldwide.

African nations performed poorly in the index, with most falling out of the top 100 least corrupt nations.

The gruesome killings in Rivers state seem to be on the high rise. Mr. Emmanuel Eluozo, the All Progressives Congress APC Ward 5 Secretary in Ogba Egbema Ndoni LGA of Rivers State -was murdered last night in cold blood right in his hometown Obor village by unknown gunmen. He was reportedly hacked to death by his assailants.

Bayelsa State | Wanted Militant And One Other Shot Dead By Soldiers


Two suspected militants have been killed in the creeks of Bayelsa State by the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Delta Safe (ODS).They were reportedly shot dead when the troops raided and destroyed their camp at Obama Flow Station in Nembe Local Government Area of the state.

A statement by a spokesman for the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Olaolu Daudu, said “troops of Sector Two carried out the raid following a tip-off by locals”. Daudu identified one of the suspects as a notorious criminal popularly known as Labista.

A lonely Chinese man was caught on surveillance camera stealing a £35 sex doll from a vending machine. The masked man, unidentified, was seen walking into a sex shop in Jinan city, east China's Shandong province, in the wee hours on Monday.

The owner of the shop has reported the case to the police, who have started an investigation, according to Pear Video.

The shop owner claimed that the man must have come prepared.

Bishop to Christians: Be ready to defend yourselves from Fulani Herdsmen


The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Ughelli, Delta State, Bishop Diamond Emuobor, has called on Christians in the country to be ready to defend themselves against any form of attack from rampaging Fulani herdsmen.

Bishop Emuobor, the General Overseer of Trinity Gospel Mission, gave the charge on Wednesday in Ughelli while reacting to recent killings in Southern Kaduna which had claimed lives and property.  He urged Christians across the country to “own a sword and defend themselves” against further attacks by herdsmen.

PDP says Buhari’s anti-corruption war is a big fraud


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war is nothing but a big scam.

The party was reacting to the President’s clearance of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. David Babachir Lawal, of corruption allegations.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesman of the PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said clearing Magu and Lawal “has finally confirmed our earlier assertion that the ‘anti-corruption war’ of the All Progressive Congress (APC)- led administration is a ruse; a witch-hunting mechanism to harass PDP members and perceived enemies of this administration.”

US President Donald Trump took a first step toward fulfilling his pledge to “build a wall” on the Mexican border Wednesday, signing two immigration­related decrees.

Trump visited the Department of Homeland Security to sign an order to begin work to “build a large physical barrier on the southern border,” according to the White House.

Nigeria police chief in London to meet Metropolitan police - Spokesperson


The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, has embarked on an official visit to London on the invitation of SO15, the London Metropolitan Police Service.

The SO15 is part of the Metropolitan Police Service Counter Terrorism Command that works for the protection of London and the United Kingdom, against threats of terrorism.

This visit is part of the gains of the International donor platform established by the IGP on assumption of office in June 2016 to empower police personnel in modern techniques of fighting organised crimes.

NAFDAC warn against use of ‘dangerous’ skin lightening creams


The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has cautioned the public against the use of skin lightning creams containing ‘mercury’ and ‘hydroquinone above two per cent’ that are dangerous to health.

The agency’s state coordinator, Natim Mullah-Dadi gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Kaduna.

He said such cream have adverse effects on health.
