President Buhari sets up committee to raise revenue

President Muhammadu Buhari has constituted a Cabinet Committee to raise additional revenues from oil and other sectors to support the funding of the 2017 budget.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning , Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma, made this known at the public presentation of the 2017 budget proposal in Abuja on Monday.

He stated that the report of the committee would be ready in time for the National Assembly to take into account while considering the budget, next year.

Cult group clash in Osogbo kills South Africa-based Nigerian few days to his wedding

Residents of Osogbo, the Osun State capital are now living in fear following the siege laid to some parts of the town by some gun-wielding cultists, who are on a rampage.

The fresh crisis which erupted last week on Saturday claimed the life of a South Africa-based youth, Bode Ibidun, who returned to the town recently in preparation for his wedding on January 7, 2017.

Our correspondent gathered that the deceased was killed by members of a cult group known as ‘Arise Boys’ which is based in Igbona area because one of the members was dating the lady, who the deceased was planning to marry.

Group of youths hacked newspaper vendor to death in Osun

Hoodlums attacked and killed a newspaper agent known as Saheed Eluyera, in Ilesa, Osun State on Monday.

It was gathered that Eluyera had earlier gone to supply newspapers at Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa and was returning to his base when some youths attacked him and hacked him to death.

Another agent told Punch that Eluyera’s motor cycle broke down while returning and an argument ensued between him and some boys, who eventually hacked him to death.

On Sunday, Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico was crowned Miss World 2016. She outclassed runners-up from the Dominican Republic and Indonesia to win the top prize.

The 66th edition of the pageant was held in the United States. According to a report by Telegraph UK, Del Valle, 19, is a brown-eyed brunette student who speaks Spanish, English and French, and hopes to get into the entertainment industry.

She was handed her crown by Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna of Spain, Del Valle who called it an "honor and a great responsibility" to represent her Caribbean homeland. She becomes the second titleholder from the island after Wilnelia Merced won the title in 1975.

Governor Udom Emmanuel Finally Speaks on Church Collapse

While speaking during the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol in Uyo on Saturday, Governor Udom Emmanuel, has finally explained why he attended the ill-fated Reigners Bible Church which collapsed during the consecration service of the Founder of the church, Apostle Akan Weeks, as a bishop last week, trapping scores of persons to death.

The governor said even though some had also questioned his rationale for going to the church, he had no regret because his presence in the church was divinely arranged, adding that if he had not been there personally to supervise the rescue efforts, mobilise medical experts and rescue workers, the casualties would have been much.

Vigilante Group allegedly Captures Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau

Yesterday news broke out that leader of the Boko Haram insurgents, Abubakar Shekau, may have been captured in Borno State.

Unconfirmed reports said Shekau was nabbed by the ‘king of hunters’ around Gafa Mountain in Borno State.

Efforts to get official confirmation from the military failed, but a key source told Daily Sun on phone that speculation about Shakau’s capture had been on for over a week. He however, revealed that troops of the Nigerian Army fighting in the area had surround the Gafa Mountain area last week over intelligence report that top Boko Haram leaders were hiding there.

Russian defence ministry plane crashes in Siberia with 39 people onboard

A plane belonging to the Russian defence ministry has crashed in Yakutia, Siberia. The plane which was carrying 39 people, 32 passengers, and 7 crew members, took off from Kansk before it came down about 18 miles short of Tiksi in the Bulun district of Russia’s far east due to bad weather.

It has been reported by Russia’s defence ministry that at least 23 of the people on board have been taken to the hospital with 16 of them in critical condition after the plane fell and broke into three pieces. So far, no death has been reported

Solomon Dalung orders NFF accounts audited over $1.1m FIFA Grant

Sports minister Solomon Dalung has ordered an audit of the accounts of the Nigeria Football Federation  after  FIFA suspended further grants to the body  until the NFF  properly accounts for the $1.1m it (FIFA) had given  the NFF.

“I received a report from the NFF intimating me of FIFA’s audit report,  which  queried  the management of $1.1m  FIFA’s development grant to the NFF,” AfricanFootball.com quoted the minister as saying on Sunday.

Suspect narrates how he created route to neigbour’s house day before robbery

A 21-one-year-old undergraduate of a university in Osun State, Rilwan Iyiola, said he created a route to the attic of his neigbhours’ apartment a day before he and his brother, Kazeem Iyiola, 19, robbed the victims.

Rilwan, a 200-level student of Political Science, said he was desperate to raise money so he could go to another institution because the course he was studying presently was allegedly forced on him.

The victims were identified as a couple, Oluwafemi Imafidon and Yetunde, who lived with the suspects on Oluwole Fagbote Street, Ota, Ogun State.

Police, kidnappers clash during rescue leaves four dead in Lagos

Four suspected kidnappers were killed on Friday in a fierce clash with some policemen from the Lagos State Police Command.

PUNCH Metro learnt that a medical doctor with St Francois Hospital, Onikan, identified simply as Dr Ajayi, who was kidnapped by the gang, was rescued unhurt by the police team.

Our correspondent gathered that Ajayi had been abducted on Friday, December 9, 2016, by the gunmen, who attacked the hospital and made away with some valuables.

Police arrest man who allegedly abuses minor for money ritual

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a man who allegedly abused  a minor sexually for money ritual in the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said this in a statement in Enugu on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Amaraizu said the suspect was nabbed on December 11, 2106, after the police got “a lot of report” about him.
