A group of beauties from 30 African countries yesterday arrived Calabar Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar to participate in the maiden edition of Miss African Beauty Pageant. With "Climate Change" as the theme, the pageant is being organized by the Cross River State Government to draw global attention to issues of climate change and sundry related environmental issues.

Addressing newsmen shortly on arrival from Morocco, the state Governor, Professor Ben Ayade who was also arriving from the just concluded United Nations conference of parties COP 22 in Marrakech, Morocco, noted that the pageant is a new addition to the state’s vast tourism offerings.

According to the governor, "The pageant is a warm embrace to Africa and more importantly, to create a platform to discuss the fate of Africans."

Kwara State | Prison warders allegedly beat six inmates to death

On Thursday, there was pandemonium at the Oke Kura Prison, Ilorin, Kwara State, after six inmates were reportedly beaten to death by warders. According to reports, 11 other inmates were seriously injured during the fracas which occurred around 2pm.

It was learned that the inmates, who were in the condemned inmates’ cell, had protested the substandard quality of food they were served. They reportedly demanded to see the controller of the prison to address their grievances.

Elephant unleashes rage after being bitten by a mad dog in India (Photos)

A temple elephant went on a rampage in India pushing over and flipping a tractor whilst terrified residents looked on. The elephant, who was brought to a vet after being bitten by a mad dog, went out of the control after being administered an anti-rabies injection.

Despite the best efforts of one of its brave mahouts in trying to stop it, the elephant continued to show its anger with him still sat on his back.

APC will rule Nigeria beyond 2019 - Prophet Guru Maharaj Ji says

Founder of the One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj ji, Friday, said that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, will rule Nigeria beyond 2019 in spite of the acrimony in the party.

A 44-year old housewife, Mary Onu has been arrested after she allegedly stole a Nissan Infiniti SUV belonging to a car dealer and used it to sow a seed offering to her church prophet, Solomon Orimisan of the Celestial Church of Christ, Idimu, Lagos, Nigeria.

The incident happened at Gabriel Bell close, Bamishile Estate in Idimu where the church was located.

Onu was arrested with her daughter, Alice who signed the agreement and handed over the Jeep to Prophet Orimisan after she obtained a token sum of N500,000 in exchange for the vehicle.

Al-Mustapha was arrested and tried for the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, wife of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief Moshood Abiola, following Abacha’s death in 1998. However, reprieve came his way when he was discharged and acquitted of the crime by the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on July 12, 2013.
