Ekiti State | Government says Senate lacks powers to probe how we spent bailout

The Ekiti State Government faulted the Senate over its plan to probe into the expenditure of the bailout granted the state by the Federal Government.

The government specifically stated that the upper chamber of the National Assembly lacked the powers to do so in a letter sent to the Chairman, Senate Committee on State and Local Government Administration, Senator Gumel Abdullahi, by the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the state, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi.

Niger Delta Avengers blow up Nembe pipeline in Bayelsa

Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers have claimed an attack on Nembe Creek Trunk Line pipeline in Bayelsa State. The pipeline is operated by Agip, Oando and Shell.

The militant group said on Tuesday that the attack was carried out as a response to ‘Operation Sharkbite’ recently launched by the Nigerian Navy in the Niger Delta to curb piracy and enhance the security of critical oil facilities in the region.

Cultists surrender arms, ammunition in Rivers State

Cultists on Tuesday surrendered 911 arms, including AK-47 rifles and pump action guns, to the Rivers State Government in the just-concluded Amnesty Programme declared by the state.

This is as the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, also placed a ban on vigilante groups in the state after receiving a report that some vigilante members belonged to various cult groups.

The cultists also laid down 7,369 ammunition through the Chairman of the State Amnesty Committee, Mr. Kenneth Chinda, at the presentation of the committee’s report at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Frances Hall, 53, was jailed for two years in September after being convicted of killing her estranged husband Bill Hall Junior in San Antonio, Texas.

Her husband's younger lover, Bonnie Contreras, now 34, is accused of taunting Hall with the messages but insists she is 'not a bad person'.

UPDATES! Whatsapp extends Blackberry shutdown

WhatsApp earlier this year announced they would no longer be supporting BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 handsets by the end of 2016 but it seems they have changed their mind.

Kidnappers demand N100m for abducted Catholic Woman Leader

A Director in the Cross River State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Bibiana Elemi-Edu, was on Friday kidnapped by gunmen on Target Street in Calabar.

Elemi-Edu, who is the President of Catholic Women Organisation of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Calabar, was kidnapped at about 7pm on Friday when she went to visit the reverend sister in charge of Good Samaritan Home.

She was waiting for the gate of the home to be opened when the gunmen swooped on her and dragged her out of her Sports Utility Vehicle into a waiting black Volkswagens Golf.
