Alvaro Morata and Marco Asensio led the way as a much-changed Real Madrid eased to a 7-1 win at third-tier Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey round-of-32 first leg on Wednesday.

Madrid's esteemed attacking trio of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were among those rested, but the visitors cruised in their absence, with the brilliant Morata and Asensio both scoring twice.

Zinedine Zidane's men needed a helping hand from Cultural for the opener, though, as Gianni Zuiverloon scored an early own goal, before Asensio added a second just after the half-hour mark.

A second powerful aftershock rattles Italy after 5.4 temblor

A pair of powerful aftershocks shook central Italy on Wednesday, knocking out power, closing a major highway and sending panicked residents into the rain-drenched streets just two months after a powerful earthquake killed nearly 300 people.

The first quake carried a magnitude of 5.4, but the second one was even stronger, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences. The U.S. Geological survey put the magnitude at 6.0 and said the epicenter was in Visso, where buildings crumbled into the street.

Female banker pays assassins to eliminate ex-husband in Lagos

Two suspected hired assassins and a female banker has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command over failed attempt to assassinate her ex-husband identified as Tochukwu Onyebuchi.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta on Wednesday. He said the banker, Oluchi Tochukwu, hired the suspected criminals to assassinate her husband in his residence at Ayobo area of Lagos State.

Iliyasu named the two suspected assassins as Chigozie Smart (32) and Kingsley Ikechukwu (36).

Syria airstrikes kill dozens of children, outside school

Airstrikes in Syria killed up to 22 people, mostly children, on Wednesday when warplanes struck a residential area housing a school complex in the northern rebel-held province of Idlib, activists and rescue workers said.

A team of first responders, the Syrian Civil Defense in Idlib, said 22 people were killed and at least 50 wounded in the raids on the village of Hass. Most of those killed were children, the group said in a posting on its Facebook page.
