Nigeria Police restate commitment to tackling cybercrime

The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the upsurge in cases of cybercrime in Nigeria through forensic investigation.

The technical adviser to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Tolu Ogunshakin, made the remarks on Monday at a training for officers of the force in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

LASU fire 13 staff over fake results, other offences

The Lagos State University (LASU) has dismissed 13 members of staff in the junior cadre, following reports from the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee.

The institution, in an official bulletin obtained by the News Agency ‎of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos, said the decision was taken by the Governing Council at its 112th Statutory Meeting held on Oct. 29.

A former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode slumped in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Saturday, his spokesperson, Jude Ndukwe, has said.

Ndukwe said in the statement on Monday that Fani-Kayode’s family and his lawyers had raised concerns about his health when he was re-arrested by the anti-graft agency on Friday, but their concerns were ignored.

EFCC arrests Former FCT Minister Bala Mohammed

A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), report says.

Details of Mr. Mohammed’s arrest remained fuzzy as at the time of filing this report, but sources confirmed was in detention at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday night.

A suspected member of a notorious armed robbery gang that had been terrorising residents of Igando, a Lagos suburb, was yesterday arrested while attempting to rape one of his female victims during an operation.

The suspect, Akeem Folorunsho, and some members of his gang, as gathered, stormed 6, Ismail Abass Street at about 5a.m. and gained entrance into one of the apartments. NDLEA seizes 2,200kg illicit drugs, arrests five drug peddlers

The Borno State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency arrested five suspected drug peddlers and seized about 2,200 kilogrammes of various psychotropic substances,  the state commander has said.

The Commander, Mr Ona Ogilegwu, announced this on Monday in Maiduguri while briefing newsmen.

He said three of the suspects, Abubakar Musa, Aliase Olando and Idris Salisu were arrested at Muna Garage, Maiduguri, while others were nabbed in Biu Local Government Area of the state.

Omokri to Buhari: Emulate Jonathan by sacking officials accused of corruption

Former Special Assistant to then president Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to borrow a leaf from his former principal by firing the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and other officials accused of corruption.

Omokri, who was reacting to Buhari’s comment that officials in his administration were accused of corruption without evidence, pointed out that Jonathan relieved his ministers (Prof Barth Nnaji and Stella Oduah) of their duties on the strength of allegations leveled against them, even when no investigation was carried out.
