Gov Aregbesola Reveals Way Out For Nigeria in Current Recession

As the recession bites harder on the economy, the governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has lent his voice proffering solutions to halt the dwindling economy.

Aregbesola spoke at the weekend during the one-year anniversary and first annual lecture of The Point Newspapers held at the Eko Hotel, Lagos.

At the lecture, with the theme, “The Economics of Change,” the governor said Nigeria must cut its dependence on foreign goods, increase local production and enhance entrepreneurship, adding that these would help save the local currency which currently carries too much pressure.

EFCC says Obanikoro Will Pay For It If Found Guilty in $2.1bn Arms Deal

More details have emerged from the ongoing investigation into the $2.1billion arms deal scandal, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reiterated their stance to make a Former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro pay for his crimes if found culpable.

According to reports, Koro as is he is fondly called, was not ferried into the country by the EFCC to be used as a prosecution witness against other suspects in the $2.1billion arms cash.

Police Recovers 19 Cars, SUVs from Former Inspector General

Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector General of Police, has demanded a probe into the illegal purchase and distribution of cars by his predecessors.

The probe was necessary because of the findings that revealed retiring officers, Deputy Inspector Generals of Police, were in the habit of buying vehicles, and appropriating it for their own personal use.

A special investigation panel, which was created for the purpose of the probe, had identified and recovered 19 police vehicles from former IG, Solomon Arase.

Electricity Tariff May Increase By Over 200 Percent in Coming days

A fresh increase on the electricity bill being paid by the consumers may take effect if a proposal by power distribution companies to raise an average energy charge of N105 per kilowatt – hour from the current 22.8/kwh is approved.

This decision by the power firms to make the increment is said to be as a result of the unavailability of foreign exchange and the devaluation of naira which has led to massive inflation rate in the country.

Jimoh Ibrahim reveals How INEC Official Demanded $1m Bribe From Him To Process Court Judgement

Factional candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ondo State governorship election, Jimoh Ibrahim, has claimed that an official from the Independent National Electoral Commission demanded a bribe of $1m from him to process court judgement while accusing the electoral body of rejecting his papers as the authentic candidate of the PDP.

He told newsmen on Sunday that INEC was not an appeal Court, therefore, cannot determine who is the PDP candidate in the election.

Presidency says judges must step down for trial

The Presidency is insisting that two Supreme Court Justices and four others must step aside ahead of their trial for alleged corruption, it was learnt last night.

It also faulted Chief Justice Mahmud Mohammed’s claim that the Judiciary had issues with the Department of State Services (DSS), not the Federal Government.

It was also learnt that the DSS refused to release the evidence against the judges under probe to the National Judicial Council (NJC) in order not to prejudice their trial.

Economy Recession: Dangote sacks 36 expatriates, 12 Nigerians

The current recession rocking the Nigerian economy has hit one of the biggest employers of labour in the country outside of the government as the Dangote Group, belonging to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has fired 48 members of staff.

Punch gathered that those sacked were made up of 36 expatriate and 12 Nigerian workers from the group’s headquarters and one of the subsidiaries, Dangote Cement Plc.

40-year-old Man Murders his wife and child due to economic recession, says he can only cater for himself

Dominic Iyayi,  a 40-year-old man from Okpoma  village in Yala local government area of Cross river state, has murdered his wife and their only child.

Ogar is alleged to have committed the act on October 8th, 2016, in Mpape Abuja. It was learnt that the suspect who slept with his wife, and child together in their apartment,  suddenly woke up at night and stabbed them both.

According  to the Commisioner of police, Federal Capital Territory Command, the suspect,  Mr Mohammed Mustapha, took the dead victims  to a primary school close to his house and dumped them there with a written note beside the dead bodies.
