Oba Ewuare II reveals why he is 40th and not 39th Oba Of Benin

Governor Oshiomhole, who presented the staff of office to the new Oba, recalled his relationship with late Oba Erediauwa who he described as a father who will be missed by all.

According to him: “Oba Erediauwa will be remembered as a King who intervened in the state government’s effort to develop the state particularly the six-lane Airport Road where he directed the state House of Assembly to give their support so that the project will be a reality.

That intervention by the late Oba made a difference. And we are lucky that the new Oba was mentored by his father and this quality he has displayed as Edaiken N’Uselu. He served as ambassador to several nations and we pray to God and our ancestors to give him the wisdom to govern his people.

Presidency says judges must step down for trial

The Presidency is insisting that two Supreme Court Justices and four others must step aside ahead of their trial for alleged corruption, it was learnt last night.

It also faulted Chief Justice Mahmud Mohammed’s claim that the Judiciary had issues with the Department of State Services (DSS), not the Federal Government.

It was also learnt that the DSS refused to release the evidence against the judges under probe to the National Judicial Council (NJC) in order not to prejudice their trial.

Economy Recession: Dangote sacks 36 expatriates, 12 Nigerians

The current recession rocking the Nigerian economy has hit one of the biggest employers of labour in the country outside of the government as the Dangote Group, belonging to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has fired 48 members of staff.

Punch gathered that those sacked were made up of 36 expatriate and 12 Nigerian workers from the group’s headquarters and one of the subsidiaries, Dangote Cement Plc.

40-year-old Man Murders his wife and child due to economic recession, says he can only cater for himself

Dominic Iyayi,  a 40-year-old man from Okpoma  village in Yala local government area of Cross river state, has murdered his wife and their only child.

Ogar is alleged to have committed the act on October 8th, 2016, in Mpape Abuja. It was learnt that the suspect who slept with his wife, and child together in their apartment,  suddenly woke up at night and stabbed them both.

According  to the Commisioner of police, Federal Capital Territory Command, the suspect,  Mr Mohammed Mustapha, took the dead victims  to a primary school close to his house and dumped them there with a written note beside the dead bodies.
