Lagos State | Government to Impose Death Sentence on Kidnappers

Lagos State Government may soon join the growing number of states including Edo, Ogun and Anambra that have imposed death sentence on kidnappers, Vanguard reports.

According to a private member bill sponsored by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, “any person, who kidnaps, abducts, detains or captures or takes another person by any means or tricks with intent to demand ransom or do anything against his/her, will commit an offence, and liable to a conviction of death sentence.

Ngozi-Okonjo Iweala appointed as member of International Advisory Panel to AIIB

A former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been appointed a member of the international advisory panel of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Mr Song Liyan, AIIB Senior Communication Officer, in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, announced that Okonjo-Iweala would join 10 other key persons on the panel.

Kaduna State | Police Arrest Seven Suspected Armed Robbers

The Police in  Kaduna State on Saturday said it arrested seven suspected armed robbers terrorizing residents of Kaduna.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Aliyu Usman, said that the suspects were arrested at Unguwar Sarki and Narayi all in Kaduna metropolis.

Usman said that the victims reported to the police on Oct. 8, while the seven suspects were arrested on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14 by the command’s State Intelligence Bureau.

Niger Delta Avengers Writes Open Letter, Issues Warning to President Buhari (READ)

The Niger Delta Avengers has given a stern warning to President Muhammadu Buhari that the threat to use military option to resolve the Niger Delta crisis will boomerang.

This was made public in an open letter by the its spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, on Thursday. He condemned what it described as disparaging remarks by Buhari since its Avengers suspended hostilities and attacks on oil facilities in the region.

Mimiko Charges Police to find the Killers of his Security Aide

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has called on police authorities to find the killers of his security aide, Idowu Oyewole, who was killed by suspected armed robbers during the week.

The governor said this in his condolence message to the family of the deceased, made available by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, in Akure, on Friday.

He also urged the authorities to ensure that peace is maintained in the state, adding that there should be no compromise in ensuring an atmosphere of peace.

Updates: Death Toll From Cameroon Rail Crash Climbs To 63

The death toll from a train derailment in Cameroon rose to 63 on Saturday, the communications minister said, as rescue efforts continued and work began to clear the vital rail line.

The packed Camrail train had been traveling from the capital Yaounde to the port city of Douala on Friday. It was derailed at around 11 a.m. local time (0600 EDT) near the station in the town of Eseka, 120 km (75 miles) west of the capital, causing carriages to overturn.

Nnaji Juliet Ijeoma, 30, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, today, during an inward screening of passengers.

If she had succeeded in smuggling in the cocaine into Nigeria, she stood to reap the sum of N1m from her sponsors.

A statement by the spokesman of NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju said that the suspect had attempted to bring in the drug into the country from Brazil. Ofoyeju hinted that the suspected white powdery substance tested positive for cocaine with a gross weight of 535 grams.

A woman teacher faces more than 200 sex charges involving two pupils. Randi Lynn Zurenko, 33, was arrested and suspended from the mixed private Catholic school. The students have been identified only as “Victims 1 and 2” and their ages have not been revealed.

Fani-Kayode, who was in court for his trial over an alleged fraud of ‎N4.9bn, was re-arrested shortly after he stepped out of the court premises.
